Question Sony Picture Gear Studio Cropping/file size questions

Hello- I'm a newbie here so please bare with me.
Recently I have submitted photos to a stock photography site but I get a message that says my File Size is too small for good pictures at 300DPI.

The strange thing is I print my own up to 8x10 and and send out for enlargements as big as 20x30 and there are no problems with printing them.

I use a Sony F717 on the highest resolution setting but here is my problem: When I crop a photo in Picture Gear Studio (Sony software that came with my Vaio) it greatly reduces the File Size- even if I only crop a small portion.

For example: I had an original photo sized at 2560 x 1920 and 2.12MB. I made a small crop adjustment down to 2404 x 1804 and it dropped the file size all the way to 610.57 KB.

Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my software?

Thanks for any help or suggestions!
