Thumbs up

In my opinion, he was telling you the truth. Especially if you buy good lenses for the D70. The pictures will be close to perfection.

My gallery is all D70

I used my mother's Canon Rebel (film) whenever I needed higher quality photos, until the Nikon D70. It has served my creative interests extremely well, and it's nice to know that the camera can do things I don't need it to do yet, maybe ever. But the option is there if I do
I've already gotten small-pay job requests after people have seen the work I've done with it, and am thrilled to start building a working portfolio soon. You can see some D70 photos using primarily the 18-70mm lens, sometiems the 50mm f/1.8, shot in RAW. I generally post process to adjust contrast, saturation, and levels on most, a cropping here or there. A few I got a little creative with, but they'll be evident enough.
If you shot JPG, be prepared to continually tweak the camera to perfection using loadable curves, settings adjustment, etc. I've personally seen some no-out-of-camera-processed JPGs that are amazing. I, however, shoot everything in RAW because then I can adjust the pictures like a digital negative and won't have to worry about lossy JPG compression.
Any more questions, please ask!

Canon Rebel vs Nikon D70

Check out DPReview

they have a comparison of cameras where you can chose your options and look at the info side by side to see what options each camera has or doesnt have according to what you think you will need.

I am purchasing a D70 in the near future as well. Glad to hear all the great things about it. Right now I have your basic slr camera so anything is a huge jump for me. I can't wait to experiment and try different things with my D70. It's a whole new world for me.
