20D Lenses.
I check out the 20D at various websites, some selling with 18-55mm EF-S lens, some selling with 18-55mm USM lens, are they the same lens? If not, which one is a better lens?
Thankyou.

They are not the same lens, the EF-S is a standard zoom lens, without the Ultra-Sonic Motor (USM). More info here. I don't see any USM 18-55mm lenses on Canon's website, which leads me to believe that either it is new, or it is a misprint on the retailers website. If you could post the site you saw the USM, I'd be interested to know if it has a different set of optics than the EF-S.

Interesting, on the main page, it doesn't so any reference that the 18-55mm is a USM lens, but according to the fact sheet here it shows it as being a USM lens. Assuming that this is not a misinterpretation by me, they appear to be the same lens. If so, that is the lens that I have, and although it works well as a general lens, the manual focus seems almost loose making it harder to use on manual mode. Personally, had I not bought the kit, I would have looked in to the 20D body and a 17-85MM IS USM Lens. Good optics, and a good general focal range. It is around $550 new so it puts it in the mid range cost.

Hi,
Some kits come with the 18-55 EF-S lens and some come with the 17-85 USM lens. If I had the choice I would probably go with the 20D & 17-85mm USM lens.

I use the 28-135mm lens for most of my photos. It was good for me to buy the camera body alone and then choose the lens I wanted. There is some savings in the kits but only if it is the right lens for you.
