C5050 Memory card compatibility

I would like to upgrade memory on my C5050. I fancy Compact Flash memory cards of 1,2 and 4 GB. However, I was told that I have to check compatibility of such cards.
Olympus tech support says that I should check compatibility issue with manufacturer of specific card.
Contacting competent people of memory manufacturers seems to be extremely difficult.

Would anyone else have some experience with this?

Thank you very much.

Hi Octopus

Can't be much help on this one I'm afraid. I too have a C5050 and have numerous cards the largest of which is 512MB. I wouldn't like to use anything bigger than this just in case the card fails. I don't like having all my eggs in one basket. I quite often change cards on a shoot well before they are full also for the same reason. . Not so expensive to replace as well when they do go wrong. I also have an XD card loaded at the same time and swap between the two frequently

That said to date I haven't had a CF or XD card fail on me as yet, but theres always a first time. I've also never had any problems with the C5050 recognising any CF cards of any type up to 512MB in size and cannot see any reason why they would fail to use a 1GB or above.

Regards

Matt

You are right.
I have also found 256MB cards for £15.99 each, no VAT, at www.7dayshop.com.
Thanks.

For what it's worth, I know it's not advised to use cards higher than 512kb in an Olympus E-10.
I don't know if Olympus have used the same 'card' technology in both cameras, though.

Good point Matt, thanks for sharing the tip. I'll keep it in mind.

I just had memory card fail on me. I shot about 40 photos, heard some sort of alarm sound and when I switched camera back on, I had no photos left. However, it still reports me 30 available photos, instead of 70. I assume my photos are still on memory card. The wuestion is...can they be recovered in some way?

Digital photos can be recovered from memory with a utility program. I use "Photo Rescue" http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/ when this happens to me. Photo Rescue has always retrieved my missing images. In several years of shooting, I have had to use the recovery software maybe a half dozen times on my 64-Mb SM card.
