Purple Fringing

I have a Sony Mavica CD500 and I love it. But, it has one minor flaw. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me why pictures have this purplish blue fringing around the edges of bright objects? It is usually very minor but in some cases it can be a little too much. Is this a simple side effect of the Carl Zeiss lens coatings or a byproduct of the CCD? Can it be cured with a lens attachment? Any help would be most appriciated.

Regards,
Brian

Chromatic Aberration

The purple fringing your getting is called chromatic aberration and can be quite common with digital cameras, especially certain Sony digital cameras.

Here's a quick fix using Adobe Photoshop to correct the chromatic aberration, although it does not remove it entirely.

1. Open photo in Photoshop.
2. Zoom the image to 100%.
3. Choose Image --> Adjust --> Hue/Saturation.

Play around with the settings until your happy with the results.

Chromatic aberration - 'purple fringing fix'

I believe that you are decribing what is known as "vignetting".

The CD500 is not supposed to do that. Perhaps you have a defect. Read about "vignetting" in the following:

Hope you still find this.

John
