Question about Canon A80

Hi All,
First of all, this is a great forum and I am happy that I found it, this is my very first post.

1 - I can buy Canon A85 for $199 here in CALIFORNIA, is this a good price?

2 - What is the difference between this model and A80 one? I mean they are both 4.0 Mega Pixel cameras.

3 - Should I spend more and get a 5.0 Mega Pixel model or a different brand altogether?

$199 is a VERY tempting price though!

I will be using this as a novice photographer.

Any insighsts would be greatly appreciated!

Your comments, insights and reviews of this camera are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

1) The A80 has a flip-out LCD screen, so you can put the camera on ground level and move the screen so you can still see it, or point the camera at yourself, and still see the screen. Everything I've read on the net says that whilst this seems unimportant at first, once you try a camera with a movable screen, you wont go back, it's very useful. The A85 does have a slightly bigger LCD screen though.

2) The A80 has a 1/1.8" CCD, the A85 has a 1/2.7" CCD. This means that they have the same number of pixels, but the A85 has them crammed closer together, which produces more noise in the picture, especially at low light / high ISO levels.

From the reviews, the A85 is still a very nice camera - I'm hopefully getting one soon. I'd preffer an A80, but can't find one anywhere over here, and the A95, which also has flip-out screen and 1/1.8" CCD, but is 5MP, is out of my budget.

Hi there

I own the A85 and I love it.

There is a little noise when there is dull light... but nothing major.

They take great photos, especially macro.

If you do a search on my name and find my album, you will see some photos i have taken with it. I think i have only uploaded 4 or so, as i owned a kodak before this

I wanted the A80 but it was nowhere to be seen
