Question CanonA75 - Image Editor?

I recently bought a Canon A75 and must admit I have soooooo much to learn it scares me.

I've spent the last few days trying to figure out how the heck to make my pictures smaller before I email them, and am getting so confused.

I open up the ZoomBrowser EX and click on "View and Modify", then click on Edit Image, then a message pops up that says "No image editor could be run. You may select a default image editor through Preferences on the Tools menu."

Then I go up and click on Tools, then I click on Preferences. Then I click on Image Editor. But both boxes are empty. (I know I probably sound really really dumb, but that's okay. I am just sooo lost.)

I have never even heard of an image editor until this week.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Shouldn't there already be an image editor somewhere with this ZoomBrowser?

H-E-L-P.......please. I have no idea what to do at this point.

I should also mention what happens when I try to attach pictures directly from my email account.

I'll go to 'create mail', then I'll click on Insert, then on File Attachment. A screen then appears with all my photos in it. If I click on a photo, then it will be attached. However, most of the pictures are huge (approx. 700 KB).

If I right click on the photo, it takes me to "Paint". Then I can click on Image, and then on Attributes, and can change the size of the pic (either inches, or pixels). BUT, what happens is that the picture is NOT a smaller version, but just a smaller area is shown. Does that make sense?

For instance, if the original picture had 10 people in it, but changing the size of the picture, I don't end up with a smaller version of the original picture. I just end up with a smaller portion of the picture (e.g. only 3 of the 10 people).

I'm just sooooo confused. Any suggestions?

Tx.

Marie,
Are you using Windows XP? If so, I use what Microsoft call a "powertoy" image resizer. When you right click a photo it adds an option in properties to allow resizing in 3 different sizes. Even if you choose the largest size it will still only end up at around 150KB, still easily emailable. This can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...ppowertoys.mspx

They're listed the right hand side of the page

I hope this helps

Paul

Thanks for the reply, Paul. I'm just checking the board now, but it's really late here (1:30 am) so I'll check the site out tomorrow when I'm more awake.

Thanks again.
p.s. I have windows xp.

Should I download the powertoy image resizer even though I have the ZoomBrowser thingy? Sorry, but I really am clueless about this stuff.

I should also mention that I can click on a picture and choose small, medium, or large, but I find that the pictures are still too large. I'd like to make them about a quarter of the smaller size.

I have a couple hundred pictures that I took at a wedding and am hoping to mail pictures to many different people (sometimes just one pic, but sometimes 30 or so).

Is there a way I can just change a setting so that every picture I have downloaded is smallish? (It seems that most of them want to be 8x11 in.)

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Marie,
Yes, the image resizer works differently to the Zoombrowser and is not related at all. You use the image resizer when you're viewing your photo's in a folder or on your desktop etc, not when you have them open in a different program, eg My pictures folder. This is handy for 1 or 2 images but not for many.
Do you have Photoshop ? Under the file menu there is a batch processing option that is hand for doing many files at once. Suggested directions are;
select file - batch processing
select source folder - where your pics are stored
convert file type - jpg
tick convert image size - say 500 pixels
tick constrain proportions
select destination folder - where you want the new files saved
click OK to begin

hopefully this will work for you
Paul
