sigma 17-35 for eos300d
Hi i have just upgraded to a 300D fantastic camera, i was using a Sigma 17-35 2.8 EXwith my film eos, with good results, i read a few reviews which said the sigma was not very good with the d300, the camera came bundled with a Sigma 18-50 which is small compact and crappily made, does anyone know of any issues regarding quality of the EX model and the 3ood??
cheers
Russ

dervish 99, I don't have any answers for you but have you had the lens on the 300D yet, how do the pictures look ? I'm currently looking for something better than the 18-55 3.5-5.6 kit lens my 300D came with and was looking at the 17-40 f4 or 16-35 f2.8. I'm finding it hard to justify though and would certainly look at more economical options such as the sigma. Let us know how your photo's turn out. I've read that some older Sigma lenses need to be rechipped prior to working on later model digital SLR's but if it turns on, focusses and operates without errors then there shouldn't be an issue (so I believe).

hi the lens works fine on the camera. i have tried to do some controled tests with the lens against the sigma that comes with the camera, ive taken a series the same shot with both lenses on a tripod at the same apartures, when in ps7 i have zoomed in to 100% and the ex lens does not look as bright or sharp as the bundled lens, ibut i find it hard to belive that the cheap lens is better than the much more expensive EX lens.

Don't fool yourself... that kit lens is pretty sharp when stopped down to f/7 or F/11...
I had it on my drebel and I kinda miss it now... I just ordered the 17-40 F/4 L, I don't suggest spending the money on it if you don't need it... On some other forums people rave about the 18-125 Sigma... Although I don't have it, so I can't give you first hand experiences..

Question about lens compatibility
Reposting as i think this question got lost
---------------------------------------------------
i am a newbie to photography. I got a EOS300D with the included 18-55 mm lens. i had a Minolta XTSI (Normal SLR not a digital SLR) camera with sigma 28-200 mm lens ( i do not know the type of lens that came with that as it is not with me right now). (for somebody wondering why a newbie has two SLRs - i thought i had a passion for photography but never had the time to explore).
Can i use it for this camera? (I beleive i cannot, as Sigma makes lenses for each manufacturer separately and they have different mounts). I would appreciate if somebody can let me know if there is a way to use this lens with EOS300D.
TIA for any suggestions.
