Hi,

I just purchased a Nikon 5700 and so far so good except for the lame battery life. I purchased an extra battery with the cam but again, you don't get much out of them. If you even dare to look over the menus, the batts will be dead in an hour or so! My question is...are there any good alternatives? I noticed they sell an adaptor that will enable you to load 6 AA batts. I already own rechargeables from my old Olympus and got great batt life out of them. I was wondering if anyone uses this adaptor and is it a big improvement?

Hi,
I don't know too much about the adapter your talking about.... but here's what I use on a power hungry Olympus E-10, the DPS 9000. I actually thought they didn't make them any more but I found one at the site below, if it's still in stock that is.

The 5700 is a power hungry camera. But the short battery life is due more to the small batteries compared to the actual camera.

I personally bought 4 extra batteries that I just rotate as needed. I found them on sale at Circuit City for about $11, so that was a deal I could not pass up.

The battery pack you talking about it great, thats actually on my list of gets for the 5700. It will triple your battery life and also get you a extra button for doing port. photos.

When using factory settings the 5700 is VERY gready, but you can extend the battery life by changing that. I just went on a trip and averaged about 150 photos per battery, and thats with using the LCD a fair amount and walking around.

The biggest thing to help save the battery is go in a change the AF mode. I am sure you have did this already to get the best out of your 5700, but going with manual selection or off, with help A LOT. Also set your Auto Off to 30 sec, this will really aid battery life as well. A few others will help, but those are the two biggest battery savers.
