Some sort of insect, I think !!

While out in the garden I came across this little fellow. Don't know what it's called, though.
Anyone ??
It's very small as can be seen compared to the grass he/she's hanging onto.

Comments and critiques are more than welcome

Wow

Haven't a clue what the insect is but it's an incredible shot.

Well done RVB

Looks to be a moth or probably more in the skipper family, but I am not sure. If I get time I will try to look it up in one of my ID books.

Over all a GREAT photo. I have to admit this is what photography is all about.

So what camera/exif?

Thumbs up nice

great shot.. its so perfectly clear. I dont know what it is either.. but its certainly colorful.
I will have to remember about using the shutter priority when taking outside close up shots.
How do you get the perfect green background?
I have seen a number of photographers seem to use this same color.

Thanks Ruth !!

I get my green backgrounds by choosing and framing the vegetation behind the subject and adapting the DOF from there. I also use a macro lens which helps a lot with this type of DOF.
For example here I was close to the moth (20-30cm) with the nearest background vegetation a few feet away.

Another way is to carry pieces of coloured card or foam card to position in the background. Many photographers use this method but I've not tried this outdoors yet.

BTW I've just discovered the name for this insect, well a moth, a Burnet Moth (Zygaena fausta).

I looked through numerous North American insect ID books and found nothing that even looked close that the patterns this critter has.

Maybe a book more focused on your area would help. Sorry, but I tried.
