If I have to choose
I think if I have to choose I would go for the second one although the first is a great shot the second has the impact for me. Normally I wouldn't compare two shots like this as I think they both have two completeley different styles although they are obviously the same shot. At the end of the day if I had to choose one to be framed and hung on my wall then number two is for me.
Love the lighting on that first shot as well. Would love to know how you did the second one too.
Thanks
Matt.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the comments.
The process I used here was quite simple.
Firstly I did all my usual post processing, then I ran a photoshop action to emulate Provia film, and finally added grain. That's all.

I like them both in different ways. I think the second one is more eye catching, but I do like the simplicity of the first version. Is the background foam core board or a black cloth? The lighting is great - what did you use?

I choose #1 RVB. Perhaps I'm old fashioned but the background does it for me. I don't like the background in pic #2 but the picture would have it's place as a book illustration I feel. Yes, it's #1 for me. Both very well done though. Regards [F.R.]

Thanks Gill !!
The background is black paper. Do you think I qualify to become a member of the FCAS. LOL
The lighting is a mix of natural light and a desktop lamp.
Ruth and Flyball Rebel, thanks for looking and taking the time to comment.

I like them both but I think the best result is somewhere in the middle for my taste.
I enjoy the creativity

I also prefer #1. I like the natural photograph as opposed to the special effect.

No Problem
Glad to help. BTW, I would probably add the signature after the Speckle effect so that it is clean on the final image.

If you ask me, I'd say #1 is far, far better. The grain just makes it look messy.
