I don't have a 5700 so I can't tell you the exact setting but I can give this info. Lights like those at Christmas require fairly long exposures so a tripod will be a must. Try a pic with the camera set to program and see the settings it chooses. In most cases the shutter speed will be too long to handhold. Indoors is much the same except you would have the option of using a flash. This allows you to handhold but it kinda wipes out the lights. Just remember, the best thing about digital is that you can try it, check it, and change it if needed.
