The Leo Trio

I get to go to Oregon for a couple of weeks so maybe I'll have some pictures of something other than space stuff...but until then.

This is a set of three beautiful galaxies in the Constellation Leo. M65, M66 and NGC 3628. These galaxies are a jazillion miles away....that is complex astro speak for along ways away. Estimated to be about 35million light years away........and light travels about 6+trillion miles in a year....so that would be about.....lets see......about a jazillion miles.

Telescope: TeleVue NP101
Camera: Starlight SXV-H9C

approx. 50pics@3min. Processed in AstroArt and PS.

thanks for looking

Thumbs up

Another awesome picture, Bud. And also, a great explanation about the distance.

Thanks Tim, they are alot of fun to take.....does take some patience getting everything set up right.

And as for the explanation......some scientific terms are hard for the average person to understand.....you know, like "jazillion"....and "whoa baby that suckers big"............it takes a while to know the exact meaning of the different jargon.

This is one of the sharpest images that I've ever seen of the sky...
I wonder what is those lights around the galaxies. Is it the halo of the galaxies?
