Hi there,

Formely a sony F user. I am now a D-Rebel maniac with the base 18-55mm lens. I had the chance to get myself the 16-35 f/2.8L, the 24-70 f/2.8L and the 50mm f/1.8.

They are all great lens that I am still experimenting with (before posting any pictures !

...and wife is happy for me to be a photography maniac

Feedback wanted!!!

Hi all. I have been Practicing real hard and i have finally got a few decent shots. Feedback would be wonderful if anyone can spare a few moments. I think These would be the best shots i have ever taken. Well I am proud but i hope to keep improving.

Ahh one more thing was just looking at buying a canon EOS 300 with the lens kit, Does anyone have any views as what this camera is like? I'm currently using the powershot G2.

I will post a review this weekend on this one I have read in an in death review magazine last week.

I have tried it for a week and it is a very good lens. Clear and all.
I exchanged it for the 16-35.

After wading through all the testosterone at the beginning of the post I finally made it to the end.

I really don't understand the problems you men have with convincing your wives to let you buy a camera. I really had no problem convincing my husband. But then it really is amazing how fast a persistent headache can go away with a new d-rebel in the camera bag.

Before the d-rebel I was a 35mm film rebel user. I have the kit lens, the 35-80 that came with the film camera and a 75-300. I'm thinking of selling the kit lens and the 75-300 and buying one good one. I shoot mostly portraits and I am thinking of the 28-135. Suggestions?

Hi Deanna,

If you would consider something else than Canon, I would recommend for portraits a Sigma AF 24-70mm f/2.8 EX for Canon EOS.

This lens is almost the same quality as the Canon version of 24-70 f/2.8 L serie but for the same price as the 28-135 which is a low end quality lens. With your D-Rebel which has a multiplying factor of 1.6X, your 24-70 would be the 35mm equivalent of a 44-112mm but it would be a f/2.8 and a better quality lens. This would mean better latitude for interior and outstanding subjects from the background.

For portraiture you may want to try out the 50mm lenses. There is an F1.8 and a F1.4 made by Canon. 50mm would give you the equivalence of an 80mm on a 35mm camera. The 1.8 can be had for under 100 dollars US. There is also an F1.8 85mm lense that is equivalent to 136mm on a 35mm camera. Either of these lenses will give you a shallow DOF. You can use your 35-80mm to see if these lenses focal length will fit your studio room.

From Pa, had the camera since first week at came out, As of today took my 5000th photo. Lot and lots of them. Great Camera. I have three lenses for it.

1. Tamron Aspherical Di, 17-35mm
2. Phoenix 100-300mm
3. canon 18-55mm

and the 550ex speedlite

And suggestions as too what lenses i should get next. I reallly enjoy outdoor photography, wildliife and such.

Maybe the Canon 70-200 2.8L IS??? With a 2X tele-converter maybe?? That's my wish list.

Hi flagen,

Well it depends on your budget and what you want to do.

You like nature then it calls for a longer focal lens or zoom.

I have a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS and it works great and gives also excellent results with a 1.4X extender.

Sigma makes also a very good 70-200 f/2.8 lens. It is a lot cheaper but does not have the IS. (This is not the end of life especially if you are used to work with a tripod.

You could go longer with either a 300mm or the Canon 100-400mm. This is something I am thinking about these days; either the Canon 300mm f/4 or the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6.
