Yes isn't it strange how we are still at the mercy of Mother Nature.
I always smile when I think about those of us in the Northern Hemisphere waiting for Spring and at the same time - Some of us (Australia etc.) are going into their Fall colors.
In the next few weeks we should start getting some photos up here to work on.
Good Shooting

I'm here - I use an A70 but am saving for a DSLR.
Would love one of the top ones but suspect I'll end up with a Digital Rebel. Sigh....

2 more Rebel users here
Another Rebel user here (actually 2 of us) my wife & I both have one. Our spring time is going well here (Oklahoma). I still carry my Kodak DX4530 & have great luck with it. I am having a hard time with the white balance with my cannon. Alot of my flower pics seem to be washing out. Overall we are very pleased with our rebels. The battery life is great & most of our pics come out good.

Boy are you in for a surprise !!
Don't make the mistake of thinking the Rebel is a "Starter" DSLR.
We (most of us) have found the camera is capable of truly professional quality photos. Yes you do have to tweak things a bit - but that is half the fun of it all.
It isn't always the fastest race car that wins the race, more often than not, it's the better driver.
Get your Rebel and come on back here- there's plenty of help and what you discover can help us too.
Good Shooting

Good to hear. My wife who claims less interest, has a Kodak 6490 and will often get that elusive "great" shot.
I can't afford to let her get her hands on my Rebel - it would be more embarassing than I could take. (HaHa)
Soon as spring FINALLY settles in, We can start sharing some outdoor stuff.

Just a suggestion -
Upload a few of your shots and then come back for a critique.
Don't worry about all the "Photo of the week" POTW stuff. Put them in your Gallery.
When you upload, your Exif data should come along with it.
Don't do any modifications - just downsize a bit and let us take a look.

Just went to your gallery and made a few comments.
If you want - just use the PM function and we can continue talking without using up all of the posts on this thread.
I have to look up the specs on your G2 so I educate myself some more.

Well, I will add to this thread as well. I got my Digital Rebel in early December. Actually I had been looking at them for quite some time and just casually mentioned it to my wife. One evening we saw a TV ad for them and she said, "We should get one of those." (Music to my ears).
It probably didn't hurt my case that it is my youngest son's senior year of high school and that my wifes' first grand baby was due the end of December. My son plays high school baseball and I had been using my 35mm Rebel for that. We had a Canon S200 digital (great little pocket camera, but not much use for baseball shots).
Like another of you, my wife also got her new DV camcorder. A Canon ZR45MC. One we got the digital Rebel we ended up getting a Canon flatbed scanner and a Canon i960 photo printer.
Luckily for me I already had the 35mm Rebel and the 50mm 1.8, a 75-300mm, and a 35-80mm. I bought the kit lens with the Digital Rebel and picked up a 420 EX flash unit. (would love an 85mm 1.8)
I do most of the photos and she does most of the video. But, I did order a new computer from Dell as my current one wasn't up to handling digital video. It will be delivered the middle of this week. Expensive few months, but we are pretty well set for a long time now. Happy that we managed this without using credit cards. By the way bought the soon stepson a Canon A70 when we bought the video camera so he could get lots of pictures of the new daughter, and he has. (As if my wife hasn't taken enough!)

Welcome -
I started this thread out of frustration - up to a few weeks ago, there wasn't much activity in this area.
Feel free to share your triumphs and frustrations with every buddy. There is no "leader" or organized protocol and that seems to work pretty well so far.
I think of this as more of a local "Coffee Shop" with most of us having a leaning to Canon products.
Kick back and enjoy !!

I just started a new thread "Lens Talk...."
Once this topic gets rolling it may go on forever.
This way anyone posting will hopefully stay on the primary subject.
See you over there with a reply....

Hi Flyfsh,
I was fortunate enough to be visiting your fine state when you posted this. The Grand Lake area, Monkey Island. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time.
If you are washing out, you may be exposing too long. Try the exposure bracketing feature. Combine this with exposure compensation and you can shoot a normal and 2 with less exposure. I had good luck using a 2/3 bracket setting when I shot some of the spring flowers. I usually use the burst mode when doing this, bam, bam, bam, you get three different exposures. I shot in AWB.
