A different swan photograph

I took this shot today and wanted to get something other than the usual portrait of a swan.

What do you think?

Minolta DiMAGE 7Hi

Geoff.

Swans

Geoff I see so many swan shots especially ones I've taken myself. It's hard to resist snapping them when they look so perfect in the water. So many I don't post any as I feel people are probably bored with them.

This however is something different. I love it. The black and white really works and I love how you caught the feathers from behind. Looks like he was just giving himself an airing. Pity some of the detail is lost in the shadows in the head, but still a superb shot.

Thanks for your kind words Matt.

In hindsight, I should have shot with a smaller aperture to get the head in focus but I'd previously shot a photo at f/4.5 and then the swan splayed it's feathers and I didn't have time to think for fear of missing the shot. Some of the detail is lost also through adjusting the levels to bring out more detail in the feathers.

Regards,

Geoff.

Geoff,

I don't know.....it seems busy without being busy.....my eye doesn't know where to stop...goes to the head and it's out of focus...so go to the feathers....they are in focus but my attention isn't kept.
