Vegas Baby.

This is the view from the top of the stratosphere hotel/casino in las vegas, nevada. You are looking down "the strip". Unfortunately the dark night sky seems to clash harshly with all of the neon which creates an interesting effect-- however I'd like to tone down this overexposure if possible. If anyone has suggestions, I'd appreicate them very much.

Cheers,
chris

In addition to the exposure problems you also have excessive noise. What photo editing programs do you have at your disposal?

If you have Photoshop you may use your dodge and burn tool to help with exposure as well as working with your filters to try and minimize the noise

Hi I’m not sure the this is salvageable…………..if you look at the histogram there just isn’t much there to work with…..the highlights are completely blown out…..in the areas circled …..

Also it was shot at 400iso which is where a great deal of your noise is from ………..…..I would practice my night shots …..And then head back to Vegas and re-shoot it as it is a spectacular view that you captured……

I know that’s not the answer you wanted ….

I would love to be proved wrong here …..If anyone has some tips to save this ….I also would like to hear them

photo editing tools/camera adjustments

I use 'The Gimp' http://www.gimp.org/ mainly to edit photos.

Unfortunately Its an "older" [circa year 2000] digital camera and this is the best resolution it gets. perhaps I should look into an 'upgrade'

If you decide to upgrade I have found the Canon G3 to be very versatile easy to use, in addition to providing incredible battery life as well as outstanding image quality

I checked your exif data in the photo and the Nikon 800 is if I remember correctly a 2 mega pixel camera….which is cable of producing a pretty good image …..If you look at exif data you will notice that you shot this at 400 iso …..Look for away to reduce this in your camera menu system ……..and I think that you will find most of the noise will be eliminated from your photos
