First Digital Camera

I am looking for a camera like the Kodak DX6490 or
the Fuji S5000 but it has to work well without flash
in museums, aquariums and places where a flash
cannot be used.
Can you help me. Thanks.

The Kodak is a great little camera for a entry level photographer thats looking for a good camera, but does not have alot of needs. The Kodak has many (I think 15) senic models to let you get a AUTO mode to do the job. The manual controls are going to be very limited.

Over all I would highly recommend this camera if your looking for a entry level camera, thats SUPER easy to work. But manual controls are very limited. But in your case, it may be TO limiting.

The Fuji 5000 is a little better equipped of the 2 you listed for the low light work. The reason why is Fujis sensors tend to be less sensitive, and actually give cleaner images at higher ISOs. But out of the Fuji lineup, the 5000 is the noisest camera of all.

I use to do a fair amount of museum work that forced me to go without a flash. The nice thing with the 602 or 7000, is there higher ISOs features tend to be a little cleaner than most cameras allowing for a shot to be taken.

Another item to look for is Image Stablization. Many newer cameras are starting to have it on them at good prices. The Canon S1 is a great 10x IS camera that also my fit your needs here. Panisonic as well makes a Fluz line with there 12x IS lenses. The camera are very fun and effective. If your looking for a step up with a more DLSR feel and control, but dont want a DSLR, then the minolta A1 or A2 would be a good choice.

Good Luck
