Points system?
I wasn't sure where to put this so I put it in here. :P
I know alot of people want to get critiques and ratings on their work. And alot of peoples photos don't get critiqued or rated. I think that alot more people would be happier at this site and alot more people would be attracted to join this site if their was a points system like there is over at http://www.photosig.com.
eg.
For every critique you give someone you earn 1 point. And if that person finds your critique was helpful then you earn 3 points. If they find it unhelpful then you lose 3 points.
It gives people motivation to give critiques because they want to have a high amount of points.
Maybe then you could have a ranking table with the top 10 point earners or something along those lines.
Well, i don't know if you can do this points system.. Maybe only photosig.com knows the coding for it.
It was just a crazy idea I thought of a moment ago.
Does anybody else think it's a good idea?

Points systems are great, this was actually talked about a few months ago. OVer all seems as if most ideas recieved mixed reviews.
Over all a points system is nice, but I feel a good strong comment is more useful than anything.
Again the points system you stated sounds nice, but it sounds like more of a ego trip more than anything. More points does not mean nothing. I will often rate one photo higher than the other, but due to complexity and composition of a photo I will often vote for the lower rated photo for POTW.
Just a personal view, but I think thats a neat idea.

Well I do think that Mitch has a point in this. We have a rating system for photo's but there is not such a thing as a (sort of) rating system for comments members give.
Some members give many comments (and mostly very good comments) and some give bad comments or don't give any comments at all. It might be a good idea to have some thoughts about a "comments rating system". Such a rating system should however not be to serious....

I am actually surprised at the lack of response to photos on this site. I have photos on another site and get a lot more views than I thought I would, but here hardly any, and not one rating or comment. It appears as though people are only interested in uploading their work and thats it. Seems opposite of what the site is about.

Not easy. How could a system differenciate between a good comment and a bad one, without human calculation and/or moderation?
Perso, I don't like the idea of winning and losing points, as it is on photosig.
Just my thoughts....

I second that... Winning and Losing is not what this site is about. Its about photographers coming together to converse over photographs that they have taken or maybe taking.
In my eyes the goal of a site like this is to all photographers of all stages (just starting - advance) to come together and share the information they have learned whether it be from a school, freind or even on the field.
When the concept of winning and loseing comes into play, thats when the competitve side of people come out. This also gives another distraction for posters to worry about.
To me a valuable comment is more important anyday than a number voting.

Strong quote, I hope you have the TRUE data to back it up. Because in the last few months that I have been here, I have found this to be a very friendly and helpsite. Often times getting extream amounts of reviews and feedback.
Its like anything you have to give a little to receave a little...
As for your work I have actually viewed it many times. I have yet to leave a comment in your gallery, but I have gave a fairly lengthy comment on one of your post.
Over all I see your mainly posting in the members gallery which is fine. But I find the traffic is alot less there and this is due to the extra amount of uploads. Many times stuff going into the gallerys are more personal based (photos that are very meaning to them) so I often dont even adventure over there.
If your looking for comments, I may recommend post up to 2 photos a week in the POTW section. There you will get alot more traffic, since a large section of the views go there most of the time. I know personally I usually write 50 or more reviews a week in the POTW section an many of them are often lengthy. So post some there and you views may change.
As for the commment you made about low responce in your gallery. Well as of right now I see that you have had over a 100 hits on your photos with a hand full of reviews in only a few days. To me I find this fairly nice, but may not be to you...
You may ask why have you not seen a review from ME in your gallery. Well as comment above I have looked many times, but I truly cant see the quiality of your work due to the OVER compression your doing. Maybe some help with you post processing skills would help.
Again become a active member for a week or so and I am sure you will find that your views will change...
If you need any help with post processing PM me or post a questions up so we can help you out....
