Sony A200 lens selection
Hi Guys
I have just got myself a Sony A200, it came with the standard 18/70mm lens
I would like to get another zoom lens, possibly an 80-300mm, looks like there are some good second hand deals available, but but I need to know which of the older type lenses will, not just fit but actually work.
Is there somwhere I can find a list of fully compatable lenses for this camera.

Hello Flossie, and welcome to Bytephoto!
I own a Minolta 5d, a Sony A100, and a Sony A700. It's good to see someone else is using a Sony camera. As far as lens information, I highly recommend this site:
http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/index.asp
This site is dedicated to Minolta and Sony slr and dslr photography and equipment. The lens review section is quite extensive and informative. Every lens that is compatable to your A200 is reviewed and ranked by people all over the world. I have bought several lenses based on the reviews, and I haven't been disappointed yet. While you are there, join the site so you can join the discusions. If you have a question about your camera/lens, just ask and I bet you will have an answer in a few hours! Also, post photos for critiques/reviews/praise. The critiques are not quite as good as here at Byte, but it is nice to get different viewpoints.
One lens recommendation that I have is don't skimp on quality! You can get cheap lenses, and you will get cheap results. You have a great camera, why put a crappy lens on it? Quality costs, but you will be well rewarded!

Thanks for the link and for what sounds like sound advice.
I must admit I was slightly tempted by some of the cheap American lenses available.
It took me over 6 months to decide which camera to buy, and you are right why stick a poor lens on it.
Cheers

OK, I have been looking at the MANY lenses available and am now more confused than ever.
I would be really greatful for some advice on this.
I am looking for a lens that will give me a bit of range maybe up to around 30 meters so I can get some wildlife type shots from a distance, while still getting the detail to make it interesting.
I have an 18 - 70mm lense so don't need the next one to overlap if that makes it easier to pick one out.
What would be your choice of lense. PS also on a budget so the cheeper the better as long as it's usable.
