717 - Bad Image Sensor?
On Wednesday, my camera was working perfectly. On Friday, the image it was "seeing" resulted in a highly solarized image. Previously recorded files showed properly in the LCD, but new images were highly distorted.
Any ideas on what the problem is and what it will cost to repair?
Thanks

Problem with 717
My 717 just started to have problems today. The photos look stretched and distorted. The colors look off with lots of pinks, oranges and browns. I believe it might be the CCD since the both the LCD and EVF are fine. Can you send me a photo at jlbowie@yahoo.com so we can see if we are having the same problem. Jason

Yeah I just sent my camera off to sony CCD program. They emailed me a shipping label and receipt, then I went to UPS to drop it off. THis was Tuesday July 18th 2006. So hopefully I can get it back soon coz I have a wedding coming up in August. I will let you know how it turns out.

i went to the local sony centre and i dont think they have a clue about the issue.
they told me that i would have to talk to the sony central service.
they said that i would have to probably pay for it since i had bought the camera outside the uk and it was outside the warranty period.
i guess you are living in the us and posted it to the us sony centre.
when did you buy your camera ?
please do let me knwo when you hear from the guys at sony.

This is what sony has posted. This is regardless of warrany validity. Its a known issue with the CCD of the camera. I bought my camera used. So i have no warranty papers. Once you type your serial number in the website they will detemrine if you are qualified. But I would suggest if you know anyone in the U.S. that you can ship your camera to for repairs.
From October 3, 2005 through October 2, 2007, Sony will repair, free of charge, affected products exhibiting the above-mentioned problem where it is caused by the image sensor device. Sony will also cover the cost of shipping and handling from and to addresses within the United States and US Territories for service to correct this issue.
They have recieved my camera all ready in Texas. So its just a matter of time till the rpair it and hsip it back.

thanks for the reply dude
the fact that you bought the camera used and it had not warranty and sony is fixing it gives me ammo to deal with sony uk.
i heard that sony uk service is crap as opposed to sony us. i have mailed sony uk, lets see what happens, else i will get some one in the US to get it fixed.

I jUst received my my camera back yesterday afternoon. I am really impressed with their expedient service. They even extended the warranty for the repairs for up to 2 years! WoW! I would send you camera to anyone you know in the U.S. to have your camera fixed. It took about 1 week total to have it fixed and shipped back. Awesome.
