Don't know how to use this camera. DSC-V1

I want to take pictures at sporting events where the people are moving but everything comes out blurry. I try and adjust the shudder speed but then the pictures become dark. I don't really know about the features on here even though I have tried reading the book. Can someone please tell me how I should set this up so that it will take good pics of things in motion? Thanks.

The V1, in common with most point-and-shoot digicams, is not the best choice for getting shots of fast moving subjects, where the SLR is king. You need to set it to 'shutter priority' and choose the fastest available shutter speed, the camera will then choose the correct aperture. Obviously plenty of light is essential otherwise a fast shutter speed won't be available (needs to be at least 1/1000 sec.) and even then you will be hampered by the relatively slow auto-focusing speed compared to an SLR. Not familiar with the V1 but if it allows you to 'preset' the focus distance that will eliminate the time it takes to 'lock on' to the subject, provided you are reasonably good at estimating distances.
