Sony DSC-H1 flash question
This camera takes very good pics for me in well lit areas and outside during the day. Whenever I need to ue the flash the pictures suck, they are extremely bright and washed out a great majority of the time. Even the subjects of those pics say the flash is really bright. I can't really find anyone with the same problems online. This camers either works great for people or they have other problems like freezing or the camera just stop working. Nothing about the extremely bright flash. In the picture modes other than auto you can adjust the flash to be brighter or dimmer but I really can't see any big difference in the pic quality no matter what the setting is set on. I am about 1 day from selling this camera and buying a different name brand. Is there something I'm missing?

I have had the same issues. I think I know whats going on. In automatic (dummie) mode it meters and averages all light in the field of view. When you have a dark subject (typical when a flash is needed) the programming over compensates and "flashes" brighter than what is needed.
The solution is to switch to P mode (Program) which still auto meters but unlocks the options. Set metering to center or even spot and the flash to negative (-).
This seems to take care of all but the most unbalanced subjects.

How do you set the flash for a (-). I have read the "Read me first" instruction, but do not understand how to make this adjustment. Thanks.

Hey, I also have a H1.
I usulay use shutter speed since I have it to 1,000 all the time with flash.
Put it on " S ' mode and go to menu. Go to Flash level and put it on " - ". It should help it out just a little.http://community.webshots.com/user/Sbeer12

Thanks Suspence. I was able to find how to set to (-). Does not really do much. In the situations where I have the room, I will stand futher back & zoom in on the subject. That seems to help,
