EZ to Connect Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7??

I am completely new to digital cameras (not computers however).

How good is this digital camera?
I like the large megapixel count, and the esp like the large screen!

Any other brands of digicam people would recommend, or models of a certain brand for that matter? I am interested in cameras that have large screens, esp 2.5inches and hopefully a good viewfinder.

Second, how easy is it to connect to my computer. I have read/heard Sony likes to keep everythign proprietary, like their batteries and the storage media.

I use a WinXP Pro OS on my computer.

The W7 is a fine camera, I have seen many great photographs taken by it, but remember. Its not the camera, but the eye behind it.

As for your computer question . . . . . sorry, you'll have to get someone else to comment. I'm on a Mac and it is plug the camera in and download. No additional sofware required.

I don't have this particular camera, but I do have a Sony, and it very easily connects to my PC (I have the XP OS too). Mine came with a USB cable that connects the camera to the computer, so you will need a USB port on your PC.

It uses a memory stick, which I like personally, to store data on the camera. Additionally, it comes with some photo album software but I only use it when uploading the photos. You can't do too much PP with the software SONY supplies.

Hi Viper69! The W7 includes a USB lead to connect it to your PC -- you don't need to install any software or drivers for it if you use Windows XP or XP Pro. When you plug the camera in and turn on the camera power, Windows will see it as another drive with it's own drive letter in 'My Computer'. Just click on that drive letter and one of the folders will contain your pics.
To save having to plug the camera into your PC every time you have some new pics to transfer, you can buy a Memory Stick 'card reader' which you can leave connected to your PC USB port. All you have to do then is remove the card from the camera and stick it in the card reader. Again, you don't have to install any drivers, XP will see the card reader as another drive with it's own drive letter. Excellent choice of camera by the way!

Well I haven't settled on buying it yet...I think it's between this model, and a Kodak DX model w/ 6.1 megapixels. I havent gotten a chance to see the OS of the Sony...But I do find the Kodak so easy to use.

I just wish the Sony had a curved side to it like the Kodak does, instead of being a retangular. Though 2.5" vs 2.2" screen sounds good to me.

hello, I came to these forums looking for information/advice. I just purchased the w7 and returned it due to its nagging issue with red eye even with red eye reduction on, I even called sony cust. service and they had already received another call regarding this issue. In all other aspects the camera is great, I just cant handle the red eye issue. I purchased the nikon coolpix s2 and this camera has issues also, the flash does not seem to provide enough light, most pics came out very dark. I have an old kodak dc290 that took better pictures than both of these with no red eye so it looks like I will be considering a kodak product, I have the Z7590 in mind.
