Memory Stick & Memory Stick Pro
I am purchasing the DSC-W7 camera and thinking of purchasing a SanDisc Memory Stick or Memory Stick Pro for that camera. However, I don't know if I need the 'PRO' or not. Is the 'PRO' suppose to be 'faster' in some way? I know that is is required for 640 MPEG but is there an advantage for just photographs?

i'm wondering that myself. I have a sony cybershot P-72 and it seems to have lot of lag when i'm taking a picture. I have to wait about 3 to 5 second to store my picture onto the memory card. Could there be a difference in taking pictures?

Memory Stick "Pro"
According to the Memory Stick specs in the back of my DSC-P93 instruction book, there are 2 notations about the "Pro" models:
1. "MagicGate" cpoyright encryption technology (which the P93 does not support) and
2. "Supports high speed data transmission using the parallel interface."
NewEgg lists 2 Sony 1 GB Pro models. One transfers at 15 Mbps and the other screams at 80 Mbps.

Alex,
Thanks for the response oo memory sticks.
Do you know the two different stock numbers for these 'Pro' memory cards that you mentioned.
I am going to buy the DSC-W7 and believe that it does not support the Magicgate either but I wonder if the stick can still be used?
I am thinking of getting the Sandisk stick because I have read that it performs better.

Since I am new to the forum, I cannot post a "clickable" link, so you will have to copy & paste.
Here are the Sony:
www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=1112&PropertyCodeValue =531%3A7926&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPr ice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=68&Submit=Property
Here are Sandisk:
www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=1404&PropertyCodeValue =531%3A7926&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPr ice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=68&Submit=Property
Don't know if they are any faster tho.

I was also wondering about more specifics on the difference between MS / MS Pro / Duo. Here is a Sony site with 4 pages of info / comparisons. Be sure to check all 4 pages - lots of info. Again, I am still not up to the 15 post minimum to post clickable links. Add http// to each link.
www.memorystick.com/en/ms/features.html
Here's another on specific camera / stick model compatibility:
esupport.sony.com/EN/info/mspro-camera.html
Finally, Best Buy has 512 MB Sandisk Pro Duo on sale for $55 w/ discount and rebate. Also others with $10 or so off:
