    Questions about Sony T1

whoop,s posted this int he wrong forum:

hey i plan to buy a digital camera some time over the next few weeks and I pretty much know I want the Sony T1. I'm basically looking for something small, portable, lightweight, and great quality.

And don't try to think I will buy anything under 5.0 mp. i just won't.

anyway, what do you guys think of the T1? I've found it for as low as $379 online, a far better deal than ebay or any place like Best Buy.

i probably would've bought it already except for the fact that i've heard rumblings about processors in cameras coming out this fall? is that the case? and if so, should i wait on purchasing this camera or just got ahead with it?

    thanks!

Sorry for not replying, I saw this was a older thread and figured it was dropped...

The T1 is a nice small compact camera and packs a lot fun into a small camera.

I recently took this little guy out for a test ride since a freind was wondering about its capablitiys and I have to admit it adds a "FUN" factor to takeing photos.

The start time on this will camera is decent, within a few seconds of slideing the clip down the lens is out and ready to take a photo. I am not use to useing a LCD for frameing, but one will learn quickly. Many P&S style photographers tend to like this though.

I see you are strongly pressing numbers. I would not worry so much about megapixels in this style camera, to much. Though resultion means alot, factors such as noise, control, and funcanablity means alot more! Dont get lost in the numbers...

The biggest thing is the T1 is a P&S and thats what it is designed for. So your going to be limited on controls. You must also realize this has a 1/2.4 sensor with a dime size lens. Thats fine for this type camera, but again you are going to have to realize that barrel distortion and pincushing is going to be noticable at wide angles and full zoom.

The biggest problem I saw with this camera was its flash. I found the flash was really only usuable up to 5-6 feet. Seems anything beyond that and the camera started to under expose the image. So unless your close, it was not very effective. I also notice red eye was a big problem, but thats the case with most cameras in this range.

I have always been a fan of sonys battery life, but I was only averageing about 90 photos to a battery, not sure if the flash was the cause, but battery life was shorter than expected.

Beware of those cheap online shops. The going price for the T1 is around $499, but alot of place are starting to mark them down $50 or so. Just beware of no name online stores.

As for processors being in digital cameras, well pretty much all digital cameras have some sort of processor or chip in it. So I am not sure what your going at here.

With a camera of this level I really would not recommend waiting, if this is what you want and it fits your needs, then go for it. But the biggest thing is with the T1, your paying for the size. And anytime you take a cameras size down this small, your going to loss certain features and some quality. But if this is what fits your needs then thats all that matters.

Oh wow man, thanks so much! That was more than I could've asked for a review!

Yeah, I would get it based on it's size and portability. I've got the P10 which is essentially the same camera, but different format. I never use that viewfinder anyway since it seems to always be different that what is on the screen. And the screen is what the picture will end up being anyway.

I've found the quality to be extraordinary on the P10; I've taken shots of the outside (mainly flowers) and have them on my desktop. They look AMAZING! I wouldn't call myself a professional by any means, but the Cybershot cameras seem to make me one, lol!

I have a professional Minolta that my brother used to have that I've been meaning to fix up if I end up taking a photography class anyime soon, but we will see.

Here's the online shop where I will probably purchase it from:

    http://www.amphotoworld.com/product.asp?id=sndsct1

I will probbaly get the black version since it's more 'original'. Is that an acceptable merchant?

And here's the memory stick I also plan to buy:

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ist&sku=302257

Again, is it an OK seller?

    THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Well I have NEVER heard much good about this company, but plenty of the other stuff. I mean they seem to have good prices, but there like most "no name"NY camera stores, A PAIN!

This is a link to the Better Busuness Bureau, it goes into depth about the complants that have been filed the last few months. Just remember, only a fraction of the people actually file complants.

    http://www.bbbnewyork.org/businessre....aspx?id=16714

With this I am not saying this is a good or a bad location to buy from. But I will recommend you to buy at your own discretion.

I see you have also posted B&H for your memory. I have to admit I have ordered from them MANY times and have been SUPER pleased with there service EVERYTIME!

I also see you commented on the COLOR. I have never seen a black US model. Did Sony make a black model for US sales? They may have, but beware, sometimes differant colors mean GRAY MARKET. Would be worth checking with sony on that one.

    Good Luck

Wow, thanks so much for the response!

I would guess that the black is more limited, but don't have any specific info about whether or not it is an official US version.

The T11 is definitely a Japanese version, but I don't know about the T1 Black.

Disregarding color, do you know of any other, better site or store where to purchase the T1? I'm basically just looking for a low low price, but I don't want to have bad service or bad warranty issues.

As soon as I can decide where to purchase the camera (if I tihnk the Brooklyn place is acceptable or if there's a better one), then I'll get it!

    I can't wait!

Now I just need to find a good place that will have Vaios for good prices...

If your looking for a good easy purchase thats going to be hassle free, then stick with a well know source or visit a local brick and mortor store. Yea your going to pay a little more, but sometimes its worth the hassel.

Also many brick and mortor stores offer in-house warrarties that actually give you much better coverage. Some even offer Unconditional Warranties that cover everything, so it does not mater whether you broke it or it broke they replace or repair. THATS THE KIND YOU WANT, but many places dont offer these unless there high end brick and morter. I know I got one a few years ago that was 4 years for $100. After numerous dumps in the river, its been repaired every time

    Thanks so much!

Thanks to you I will buy the memory stick from B&H for the cheapest dela on the net! Also, any reason why memory, especially mem stick pro duo is so enexpensive now? Just a ocuple monthss ago Sony had the 256MB stick for nearly $200; now they're selling ti for like $120.

Whatevrer, I'll still get it for $85. I;m happy.

Now I still gotta select where to buy the camera and need to find Vaio info QUICK!! (like a month!)

Last time I'll ask, but does anyone know of a good place to buy the camera from? Cheap, good service, warranties, etc?

Obviously I mean online places, and I'm trying to avoid the BEst BUys or circuit city.

    thx
