Those are two totally differant cameras, that serve two totally differant purposes.

I would recommend setting down and review what photos you have taken in the past and what kind of photography work you plan on doing in the future.

The Sony is a much more compact camera, that you will probably tend to carry around with you much more since the size permits it. As for controls its going to have enough to allow your photography to grows as you learn the camera. I tend to think this is a camera that is designed more for those Kodak Moments.

The canon on the other hand is a 10x camera that is going to allow much more zoom range and flexablity in your photography. I have found in the past that a 10x cameras adds alot of fun to taking photos. Its also very nice if you would like to do family sporting events or any wildlife photography. The over all feel of the canon is nice and solid and its fairly compact for what it does. The biggest thing with it, is it has IS, which will be nice with that 10x zoom and lower light.

Again both cameras are very nice and will do good. But each have there limitations and Pros/Cons. It really a depends on what you plan on using it for. Some people will never use nothing less than a big zoom camera, an some just dont need that extra zoom.
