Photoshop Elements 5.0
I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop Elements 5.0 onto my Windows Vista desktop and I can't get it to work. When I bring it up I get the message AN ERROR HAS BEEN DETECTED WITH A REQUIRED APPLICATION LIBRARY AND THE PRODUCT CANNOT CONTINUE. PLEASE RESTART THE APPLICATION. I've reinstalled with no luck. Any ideas?
Also, what is a good photo editing/organizing/printing software package for a non-professional photographer? I am currently using the Windows Photo Gallery in Windows Vista but it is not that good.
I am interested in software that will let me take the date from the stored data and print it on the picture.smo

hello smolinskym - haha you've opened up a pandora's box on the subject, i am very much a beginner but there is a lot of info here from helpful people on the site. somewhere in the forums there is a thread called "editing software" and a lot is explained there.
much depends on how much you are willing/can afford.
i found it helpful to download free trial versions of various different editing software.
do you have vista basic or vista premium? i've heard there's a lot of problems with basic. ive got windows XP and PS elements 5 worked fine with XP, i also found it extremely user friendly ( but think its limited compared with CS2)
i also downloaded trial version of Corel Paint Shop Pro XI
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satelli...wnloads/Trials
i really enjoyed using it but found not being able to view batches of pics a problem. otherwise its a quality editing software. another problems was sharing file extensions with other programs.
trial version of PS elements 5 was extremely user friendly and seemed to explain as i went along for editing - it also downloaded from my card at a good rate and catologued images so you can view them. while the editing was adequate, i think its limited compared with CS2.
i miss elements 5 and now have cs2 which i 'm stumbling around in the dark with, not user friendly at all. i will stick with it because its potentially such a powerful software, once i figure out how to use it. Also, i got it for next to nothing from a web site which i must admit did seemed dodgy, but alls well, the software works fine and i've been getting updates. let me know if you want a link to that shop.
acdsee is excellent for organising but think the editing is limited.
Gimp is a good free software - but since my computer has crashed so frequently, i'm a bit wary.
i downloaded irfan view but have now removed it after all the crashes.
hope you've found this more helpful than confusing.good luck
