Digital cameras

Because I am going to be purchasing my first digital camera I am wondering what is really the best option for first camera to start with?

Well IMO it all really depends on what type of pics you're going to take, the experience you have on taking photos and of course your price range.

For example there's the 'point and shoot', where the camera does most of the work or there are the others where you have more control over the photos you take.

Personnally I bought an Olympus E-10 because I had some experience in the past with SLR's and I have all the control I need for taking shots. It was also within my price range. One drawback with the E-10 choice is it's not that great for sporting events because of its slow buffer.

I agree with RVB on experience level. I also suggest asking yourself if you r going to develop it into a hobby. If you are, you should get one with manual capability. This will allow you to learn and grow with it.. Most of these cameras are very good P & S as well when on auto mode.

On the other hand, if its just for causal shooting, a P & S will be enf and it also cost much lesser.

Dont forget, editing software too.. I am quite sure most of the pics on the internet has gone through some kind of processing before being posted. I know I have..

Don't look now but Canon just announce their new 4MP a80 w/flip screen. This could be just what you are looking for.

Looking to get a Prosumer model within the next couple of months and with the new releases out I am a bit confused. I would like to get something that would allow me to make 11x17 prints and now Sony has the f828 that looks to be the "Big Dog" along with Canon 300d in the range I am looking for. Should I get an SLR digital with interchangeable lenses and the possibility of dust on sensor or should I go with fixed lense, keep out the dust but smaller sensor. Would the 8MP sensor in the f828 actually make as good of prints as the larger sensor 300d???

Either SO CUNFUSED or SO STUPID. I don't know???
