Lady In Need Of Answers Anyone Help ?

    Hello everyone,

this being my first post i would like to say a BIG HELLO to everyone.

What my question is and i am sure it has been asked so many times if you were in the market to buy a compact camera what camera would you purchase?

I currently have a Nixon D50 that i have owned for many years with great results but now have a one year old daughter and just feel it’‚’‚…‚’‚…Ύ‚s time to go to a compact as the SLR is too bulky and big just want a good compact camera that takes good quality photos and the colour is true to life.

Sorry in advance if this has been asked so many times
but there are so many cameras on the market and i feel when i ask in store for advice they are all doing is the same thing trying to sell me the most expensive not the best.

    Edit:
Woops forgot to add the camera would be taking pictures of my daughter mainly but also would like to take good pictures of scenery.

I am a complete armature but just love snapping away here below is the type of pictures i like taking

Many, many thanks also in advance,

    Emma

Emma, I've heard rave reviews from people who own both the Canon Powershot G9 and the newer Canon Powershot G10. (I've seen pictures taken with it and they're great - both scenery and people.) Lots of features and a 5x optical zoom which is usually plenty for taking indoor baby shots and good scenery.

I'm also a Nikon D50 owner and love it, but I often take the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 that I got the kids for Xmas on our family outings because it's a lot lighter weight than my D50 and all its lenses. It does well on both indoor and outdoor shot and has an 18x optical zoom which is excellent for wildlife and scenery and other closeups. It's not as 'purse-friendly' but is very lightweight and relatively easy to use although there are a lot of different options to the settings.

    Hope that helps.
    Happy shooting!

Have fun playing with your new camera Emma. Panasonic is rock solid. I've taken some very nice photos with our - including show jumping a couple of weeks ago. (My 10-year-old daughter took many of the actual jumper shots. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...6&l=3ca7eacd14

Thanks for your compliments. I've been with Byte for 5 years now and have come a long way since I started too - much of it thanks to feedback I received here. I have a Nikon D50 with four lenses now.

The 18-55mm kit lens I used for all my landscapes and much more up until May when I bought the Pro Nikkor 24-70mm. It's amazing. I shot an entire wedding with it a couple of weeks ago - still have lots to learn with it.

I also have a Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 which I use for a lot of my flower shots and close-up portraits.

    Finally a Nikkor AF-S 70-300 4.5-5.6 D ED Lens.
