Composition: Seeing like a painter
I am a fan of the site Luminous Landscape and also a fan of Art Wolfe. Art has an artilcle at LL entitled "Seeing like a painter". I found it insightful, so I wanted to share the link: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/co...e/seeing.shtml

Interesting perspective, Buddy. Landscape photography in particular lends itself to this analogy, but insomuch as almost all shots benefit from simpler comp (and a painter gets to choose what's added to his/her image), I think the comparison is a good one.
If nothing else, the article is good for making one think about negative space.

I draw and paint, the latter not as much anymore, and I think it's a help to me in composing.
One of the hardest things for me to learn as a painter was knowing when to stop - less is almost always more. It's a good lesson for photographers too think.
Sheila.
