    Canon G5 or Sony DSC-V1???

    Hi all,

I've narrowed my new camera choices down to 2 competitors. The Canon Powershot G5 and the Sony Cybershot DSC-V1. Can anyone help me with their opinions on the better choice of these two, or even their views on the main differences between them?

    Thanks a lot,
    DarkAngel

Dark angel.. hard to say which one is better, since most of the features are the same. At the end it all is a matetr of your preference.

There are many sites that will allow you to do a side-by-side comparisson. DPReview.com has this option and great reviews of these cameras. (moderators if I am breaking a rule by posting other sites names here please let me know!).

Once you feel happy with all the techno-stuff you read, the final test I recommedn is to visit your nearest photo store and use the cameras yourself. You can even bring a couple of cards (or memory stick) and shot a few pictures. Fel the weight, how accesible the controls are, the appearance, etc. Then take the cards to a koday kiosk or similar and print your samples.

Even if you are not planing on buying the cameras tehre, this hands-on experience is important IMHO

um, quite honestly, as icarusfree has mentioned, it comes down to personal preference.

both cameras are suposedly very good, i say suposedly because i have never personally played with either one for a long enough time to give a good assesment. (i'm still using a g2 and debating wether or not to go for the 300d or wait for the 828) i'd say to go to websites as stated before and read all of the techno-babble. don't worry if you don't understand all of it. i didn't understand all of it until recently myself .

and once again as stated before, go to your nearest camera store and play with the camera a bit. IMO, it is *the most important* step of buying your camera, unless you know for a fact that you would never regret your choice. website reviews can only tell you the main things that you have to or should look out for. wheter or not you actually like the camera, is completely up to you.

oh and btw, just a thought, if you do decide to go w/ the v-1, you will have to buy a sony memory stick...and those are a good hunck of change...especially if cost is an issue.
