Goodbye!
Bye Bye

Dec 22nd, 2008 05:56 AM #2skeuos GuestFrom a photography standpoint, Howard, I'm sorry to see you go. However, I see no reason to attempt to poison the well on the way out.Originally posted by HotShoe
OK that's it. I've decided. This is a pathetic photo forum where no action gets undertaken and everything just plods along. A right pity because there are some members here who do care. I would advise you to search out some better photo site to join. This is a dead-end street here and a total waste of time and energy.
For my part, I decided some time back that dpchallenge was not the site for me.
I wish you success.

Re: Goodbye!
Much like Steve I take issue with your acerbic goodbye. It is unfortunate that your voting issues went unresolved and I can understand your angst but your characterisation of this site as a "dead end and a total waste of time and energy" disparages the time, expertise and effort of many good people. Yes the site has some issues and I assure you that most of us are aware of those issues but that doesn't negate the quality of the feedback that one receives here.Originally posted by HotShoe

Good luck and enjoy yourselves. I have better things to do.

As to your lack of return comments I would surmise that your history of defensiveness might be contributory to that lack. If you hung around longer and continued to accept comments in the spirit in which they were offered (efforts to help you iimprove as a photographer) I can guarantee that you would see your comment totals increase. I normally wouldn't offer up this somewhat ungilded advice but since you felt free to disparage, en masse, all of us here I thought turn about was fair play.
Good luck to you and may the photography Gods smile upon you daily.

Hotshoe,
As your above post indicates you do get defensive. The defensiveness I remarked upon was based on you arguing with folks about thier opinions on yours and others photos. I'm sorry I didn't comment on enough of your shots and I'll admit that I've been a bit lax of late. My apologies to you and others for that lack.
I do find your admission that you've been here previously revelatory as well as amusing. You must have found the site beneficial in some respect or you wouldn't have returned. I do understand your angst as regards not being able to vote but I don't understand or condone denigrating the entire site as worthless.
As to your assertion that I wouldn't have said that you were defensive to you in your previous incarnation I'll say that I would have done so if you exhibited defensiveness. If I'm right in my surmise as to your previous identity you didn't argue with folks regarding thier opinions and your thin skin didn't reveal itself until your swan song after you'd done the community a nice service.
I again apologize for not returning comments as regularly as I should. I've had a lot on my plate the last year what with a wayward daughter, death of a loved one and heart rhythm issues of my own as well as dealing with depression and the concomittent inertia that brings.
Swan songs rarely work out well for anyone and I'dve been content enough with yours if you hadn't decided to paint the entire site as a waste of time. Just a simple goodbye would've sufficed.

Howard?? I assume that is your name?
I, for one wish you would stay? I am sure we can work through this voting issue?
As for the site and the members that are here? I think the economy, personal stress are signs of the times. There are many of us that just do not have the time that we would like right now to post as many comments as we would like...or should post... But most of us still try to keep in touch with our friends at byte by making a few post a week.
I do hope that when life bounces back and as the economy gets better the members here will start to particapate more and the site can one day return to what it once was.
The site is what WE make of it.... I will be the first to say for the first month you were here you were a "breath of fresh air" and did a wonderful job commenting on everyone's shots. For that I thank you!
As for taking critisism well.... I think a lot of us could work on that issue.. ....Myself included.
Merry Christmas,
Joe

Hotshoe,
I do understand your frustration and I should have tempered my original comments to you as well. You've a valid point as regards (my) contributions over the last year or so as I don't return as much as I receive. I do wish you success and happiness wherever you may go and if you chose to stay here or return I'll try to return the attention.
I still think you might try sending Paul a private message explaining your voting issues and see if he can't resolve them, that is if you do decide to stay.
Best wishes to you.

Your voting issues are most likely due to the fact that your bytephoto *reads* who you are by your isp address. If you were previously a member, it still has that address recorded. The reason for this is to stop folks from joining under multiple names and having multiple voting rights.
So...... who were you in your past byte life?
Edited to add: Log in with your other id, and try to vote...Last edited by shootem; Dec 22nd, 2008 at 02:11 PM.

Ha! Carolyn, you and I think alike, I just happened to catch this thread and was about to reply with the same answer.
According to the profile, his name is Fred.
I remember a couple Freds but dont remember much about them.
I do remember this profile comment but darn if I can remember exactly who it was attached to.

I also hate to see Hotshoe depart. I will admit I have had limited time to comment, so I have only commented on shots where the thumbnail pulled me in or the past images by the person had been interesting. I also try to comment on anyone who makes a really sincere effort to give me comments and information on my images. Considering this, I have not commented on Hotshoe's shots much. Here is why: I did feel attacked a few times for giving candid feedback. Heck, I regularly have folks find fault with my images, but that is how I learn, but I rarely have folks find fault with my feedback - but, Hotshoe, you did. The other reason was that once that event passed, Hotshoe commented a lot, but I didn't interpret the his feedback as really candid comments.
Hotshoe, I want you to stay. I want you to tell me what you really think of my shots .... and I want you to accept (not necessarily agree) with the feedback I give to your shots.
Regarding past participation and also issues in getting voting status, I don't know the past, so I can't really comment, but I will state that the admins have not been as transparent as I would like on many of the admin issues at the forum.
