Edit challenge - Sunset on the Potomac
The new edit challenge is up! I've tried again to pick one with broad appeal and flexibility, so hopefully it will inspire some creativity and unique takes. Here's the link to (what should be) the large version:

I'm catching an east-bound plane next Monday afternoon. Therefore, I'll be announcing a winner first thing Monday morning (approx. 8:30 - 9:00 NYC time). Please have your entries in by Sunday night to give me a good chance to evaluate it thoroughly.

OK, gang, after much deliberation, I have chosen a winner for the "Sunset on the Potomac" edit challenge.
Thanks to everyone who submitted an edit. It was great and very informative to see the different ways of bring out the lighting of the evening without losing the prominence of the boats. I spent a fair bit of time bouncing back and forth between shots (thank you, whoever first came up with the concept of tabbed browsing) trying to decide who best captured the atmosphere of the scene.
In the end, I've decided to go with Darren's (punwit's) edit #2 - http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/s...hp?photo=90294 . The filter he used (a plugin called "landscape painter") gave a very nice artistic feel that suited the scene quite well, and made it something that these boats' owners should be proud to hang. The other adjustments bring out the aforementioned lighting quite well. Nice work, Darren! You're on the clock for this week.

Steve,
Wow, this was totally unexpected. The quality of the competition had me thinking my chances were slim. I usually feel a bit overmatched because we have some folks whose PP magic just leaves me in awe. Thanks so much for the selection as well as the lovely beginning image. If anyone is interested in the script/plugin/filter that rendered the image it is a script add-on for The Gimp. Here is a short description and the script, http://pygments.org/demo/150/. I've already uploaded the next image and I'll have a thread announcing that in a jiffy.
Darren
