You must be looking for SLR-like Cameras. When I started in Digital Photography I used Kodak Z7590. It's very capable SLR-like Camera against its price tag. I list below some of the Camera that I think will be within your budget:
Canon SX100 IS 10x zoom 8MP $217
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsx100is/
Kodak Z712 IS 12.1X zoom 7.1MP $229
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQueri...requestid=3913
Kodak Z812 IS 12X zomm 8.2MP $249
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQueri...requestid=4007
There are also same camera category with Sony but most of them starts at 300USD. In my opinion, Kodak Z812 is the most capable between the 3 cameras...
Good Luck!!!-=wynngd=-

Wynn's given you some great links. The best I can say is to check out those reviews. I haven't used the a720, but I do have an a540 and used to have an a70. I like them for their balance between p&s and manual control. The manual controls are easy enough to learn.
On the down side, it's difficult to get a limited depth of field on any shot where the subject isn't very close to the camera. But that may be different on the more advanced a720.

First off thanx for the links...
I checked out the reviews and now am stuck between the a720is and sx100is as the other 2 are a little bit over my budget range that i was going for. So if anyone has experience with these 2 cameras id appreciate input on how both of these match up against each other. thanx
