Editor's Corner -Exposure Woes Winner
I'd like to thank you all for taking the time to participate during what is probably the most busy week of the year for many of you. As I mentioned in the original thread this shot was taken 2.5 years ago and I've grown much as a photographer since taking this shot. Were I to have an opportunity to retake the shot I would do several things differently. I would have used some fill flash to help with exposure on Anna and I would have tried to use a much wider aperture in an effort to throw the background oof. The above efforts would have been taken to provide more focus on Anna and as such the criteria I used when judging these submission were almost entirely based on how Anna's face looked in your edits.
Travis, You really did a super job of bringing some pop to the background and the mountains behind Anna look great.
Rick, you also did a nice job of uplifting the color and pop of the beautiful scenery and as with Travis the background mountain looks great.
Marysa, as with the first two you managed to eke more oomph out of the background but you also enhanced the lighting on Anna's face without the degradation that I experienced when trying fix this shot. I'm not sure exactly what the moonlight effect does but it is flattering to Anna's face.
Sam, your edit also featured a nice treatment of Anna's face and the background looks fabulous as well. The tighter crop works well to focus our attention on the nice soft glow you acheived on her face. I'd never even noticed those leaves by her feet but thier removal improves the shot.
Steve, Black and White is something I'd not considered but it does help to force more focus on Anna rather than on the background scenery. I really like the crop you chose as it increases the intimacy but still maintains the framing I was so proud of originally.
Kevin, As I mentioned to Steve the crop you chose works really well for me here. The other thing you did that I really like is the blurring of the background and as I say if I had the opportunity for a retake that would be one of my main objectives.
Given that Anna's beautiful face seems to be my main criteria here the two images that I most enjoyed in that regard belonged to Marysa and Sam. I do like Sam's crop but the background mountain also seems to be garnering more attention than I'd like. Both of these treatments really enhanced the poor exposure I used but I'm going to go with Marysa's Moonlight Magic as my selection.
Thank you all again so much for your time and your efforts. Marysa you are next up and I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year.
Darren

Dear Darren.
I am honoured that my edit met with your approval. She is a beautiful girl and definitely was the focus of the photo
I also liked the crops that were suggested.
I will post an edit shot this evening.
A very happy New Year to all at Byte
Mary
