An advisory and a clarification request
If you are like me it is possible that you've missed the blurb on the contest page under the "Edited Photos" heading. I'd always assumed that the "Edited Photos" were for images that had been modified as a form of critique or suggestion by the commentors. The blurb,
" Had some critiques on how to improve your photo(s) during the Photo Contest... ? ... please post your edited photos here instead of reposting to the Contest section as your photo(s) may not be accepted for the contest finals"
makes it sound more like if you modify your own image and repost that the likelihood of your image being selected for the final of the POTW is negligible. So this post is to an attempt to highlight that fact for inattentive folks like myself as well as a question for admin. That question is, "If I make modifications to my image mid-stream (whether they are prompted by a critique or not) will that damage my chances of making the final six cut/"

Darren, perhaps you should email Admin. to get an explanation from the horse's mouth...
However, here's what I got out of that guideline. If you have had an image in the "edit" section and get feedback and then post your edited to the contest that should be that. Leave it there instead of soliciting further comment, editing it again and then reposting it.
I suspect it's about not having the contest become an extension of "editing" by having the same images come and go.
Could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, but that was my take on it when I read that the other day.
Sheila.
