help and advise. 1st 'potential' paid job.
just had some good news. i have a meeting in Manchester on Friday as regards to working for one of the city's established night clubs. it looks like they might want me to be there official events photographer. woo hoo! i am not getting too excited just yet but just wondering if you guys could give me any pointers for the meeting? how best should i approach the meeting as regards to what the club is looking for and what i should look at charging. ie. hourly rate/fixed rate/ sort of amounts etc....
Regards,
Kwame.

Kwame,
Just want to say congratulations on the offer. I'd love to offer suggestions, but I'm just a guy with a camera and a day job. Don't be afraid to bump this if it doesn't get any replies soon.
Best,
steve

Kwame, for pricing, do some homework and find out what photographers in the area would charge for a similar type of contract. Then ask the customer what their budget is so that you can work within both ranges without compromising your position.
And good luck! I've had my first paying people sessions this year and it's a really warm and fuzzy feeling when people love what you do for them.Suzan...

Congrats Kwame. Can't wait to see some of the shots. You may want to get releases ready depending on the laws there. In a closed venue like a club it is best to CYA if you know what I mean.
Cheers,
kevin

MOdel releases are agreements that people you shoot need to sign to give you permission to use their image. This is a very nebulous and oft times confusing thing. I the UK I think there is a lot more leeway given in regards to these laws. It probably isn't a big deal but certainly something you should be aware of. Ask around or "google" model releases. You can probably find the right answer. Happy shooting.

aha! thanks for the explanation Kevin. don't think it is such a problem over here. my shooting style in clubs is unobtrusive as to just try and capture the atmos of the night. i am not one for people posing shots, though if someone asks me to take their picture i will.

Kwame.
