Taking the Bull by the Horns (Please Critique)
Ok so I suggested in Sam's thread that as members we do what we can to jump start the critique section whether or not admin makes any changes. I've uploaded a shot to the critique section and I'd love to get some feedback. One thing that may be a bit confusing is the number of seperate galleries. We could try using this thread or one similar to link the shots you'd like critiqued so we don't have to peruse all those galleries. Here's the shot, http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/s...hp?photo=85534

Darren,
Excellent work to give the forum a jolt. I've uploaded two for critique as well for people to have a look at when they have a chance. One I recently scanned from Elitechrome (sundial); the other I shot about a month and a half ago and have been on the cusp of entering it in the contest a few times (echo).

Thanks for posting some shots Steve, Now we need to get some other folks uploading thier less than perfect images. Personally I think that the images you elect not to share in the contest gallery might be a very fertile ground for learning for all of us. Those images you're most satisfied with will have fewer flaws and surely sharing those flaws and bringing them to light will make for a richer learning experience especially for the begining photographers.
I've another image I'd love some feedback on. I briefly considered this for the contest but rejected it for reasons I'll share later or reveal if others feel similarly.

Critique please........... http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/s...hp?photo=85613
The idea is a good one to get more people involved in the critique area of the site. I noticed that everyone posting here have uploaded their photos to the photo album instead of photo critique and posted their link. In all honesty, it looks like the only way to get a photo critiqued, as no one seems to visit the critique area................. Still a good idea.

A plea for participation
If this effort is to be successful I believe we're going to need more folks contributing not only shots to be critiqued but critiques as well. And really the critiques are more imperative than the images. I'm not married to this attempt to revitalize the critiquing section but I will devote my attention there if it appears that there are folks willing to contribute. I'd really exhort those that have submitted an image to be critiqued to exercise their critical muscles to return the favors extended on thier behalf.
I'm also asking for more opinions as to whether this seems like a viable workaround until something more user-friendly is implemented. I have no problem with others suggesting and or pursuing other avenues to bolster the critique galleries.
A note to Ellen,
Both Steve and I uploaded our shots to the critique galleries. One of the difficulties in my view is that they are separated by genre. I'd much prefer that the critique gallery be not chopped up this way but rather one gallery so new submissions could be viewed at a glance rather than having to check each individual gallery.
Please feel free to make any comments concerning this effort or its' implementation.

Darren,
You can now upload to a distinct album where the photos no longer go into individual categories, much like the Photo Contest.
Click here to go to the Photo Critiques GalleryKind Regards.

I like the critique link. I had to bookmark the page because I couldn't find my way there without clicking the link.
Thanks for listening to our suggestions and responding with a step in the right direction. Admin's who listen, great job.

I've updated the orchid shot from last week, but I'm keeping the original up for comparisons. Here's the new version:
