Hmm, there are alot of options out there. It would help if you could give us some sort of idea of how much your looking to spend. Do you want a Canon, a Nikon, or something else? Do you want new? or would you be ok with used? Really, any additional information you can give would be very helpful.

While Nikon and Canon are both solid, I have both a Canon (the original) digital rebel and a Canon 30D. BTW, my Rebel has over 12,000 exposures and still works excellent. I only bought the second body as I was going on safari and wanted to make sure I had 2 in case of failure.

I use the web forums extensively to learn more about equipment and lenses. I seem to see more of these dedicated to Canon than Nikon - but it's pretty close.

Buddy, You see more dedicated to Cannon because all the owners are still treying to figure out why they didn't buy a Nikon.....LOL

Well Vinnhy, I think it would also help to know what kind of photography you're most interested in. While that probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference in terms of body, it might in your choice of lenses. I'm personally a little predjudiced toward Nikon because their glass is generally really good (so is Canon), but Canon probably has more choice in the longer focal lengths, which is important, I think, if you're interested in things like birding.

You may also want to consider a used camera from a reliable internet dealer like KEH. That way you may be able to get a more advanced camera (Nikon D70 for instance) in your price range.

Anyway, lots to consider... good luck
