Boy that lens help pay for itself in that image, didn't it? Great close-up, Trigger.

Nice capture although it seems it is little bit flat.
May I ask you how much you paid for that lens?
I was born and brought up in Iran, a beautiful country full of history.

Very nice. Was it a crop?

Ah, the infamous EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III USM.

Not the best lens out there, and I have one too, because it's so darn cheap.

I actually think it's somewhat under-rated. Of course, it's got some limitations, but if you stay within the boundaries, the photos are more than acceptable.

The reason why I bought it is that I want to shoot birds and other wildlife, but can't afford an L lens. Here's what I found through the use of this lens:

1: you will very likely need a tripod when shooting at 300mm, unless in very bright sunlight.

2: it fares a lot better against a darker green background, as opposed to say a bright blue sky. I've taken quite a few photos of birds in trees against a blue sky background; the chromatic aberration is quite significant. However, if the bird is against a green background like grass for example, the shot remains quite clear.

3: It is difficult to shoot something with high contrast without noticeable CA, unless stopped down - which is not too bad if the subject is not moving, and the background/foreground isn't too distracting.

4: Can't complain. You get what you pay for. Explore the lens a bit and deal with it, and let the magic happen.

Have fun with your new toy. I can assure you it will be a fun one.

I own the 70-300 IS and also a 100-400 IS L. Like you, I have found the less expensive lense takes great photos - not that different than my expensive glass, and also a lot lighter to lug around. Looks like you have a nice sharp copy.
