No critques!!!
Hi, I joined this website recently in the hope to get comments from people who know what they are talking about. I am a complete amateur! Was just wandering what makes someone leave comments on some photos and not others?? Do people just comment on the good ones??
If someone could just have a wee look at what ive got to far, leaving as much criticism as required it would be very helpful.

Hello, and welcome to Byte.
The best way to get critiques is to enter your photos in the Photo of the Week contest. (2 per week). Because of the large volume of photos and number of people here, it is often impossible to see even a fraction of the photos. The contest gets the most exposure, so your photos will be seen and critiqued. I took a peek at your gallery, and am impressed! Please enter a couple in the contest this week to let others see them as well!
Again, welcome!

Thanks for the advise. Just thought it would of been cheeky for a wee beginner like myself to enter a contest. Hope i get some comments soon. Thanks again.

I'm also new here, so a newbie to newbie welcome.
Within this short timeframe of exposure (so to speak) I am already getting positive vibes from this forum with its friendly and helpful ambience.
With this sort of atmosphere entering the contest is more of a sharing exercise than a competitive one. So you should not hesitate to enter it like the seniors above have advised.

Welcome to Byte both of you. Another way to learn off this site is go read the critiques on other photos in the contest.
As well, if you start commenting on photos in the contests, most of our community makes a huge effort to comment back. We don't always have time to hit every image (as much as we'd like to) but if someone has taken time to comment on our shots, we certainly like to return the favour. And before you say 'but I'm new, what can I say...' just say what you like. Look at a shot - if you like the positioning of something say it. If you think it might look better in a different area, suggest it. There are no rights and wrongs, just different perspectives and we can all learn from those.
Two and a half years ago when I joined this sight, I wouldn't have dreamed of giving advice on the technicalities of a shot. Now I can. I've learned a ton here.
So happy shooting & posting!Suzan...

Ask, Critique???
Welcome even though I have been only 8 months myself.
There is an incredible sense of community here. The Senior Members have always responded to my questions and comments. I have asked/posted some pretty dumb ?s/remarks and have never been made to feel unwelcome. You can also send questions about technique and methods about a particular shot directly to the member via a Private Message (PM). Lately there has been a craze to do it in German.

Sadly, no one seems to pay much attention to the actual form for critiquing images...what is supposed to be a contest has really become a critique corner. There are so many good images posted in the real critique place that never get looked at and won't until someone makes the contest a real contest.
I will take a look at your gallery. And welcome
Sheila.

You should never feel cheeky....sometimes you may have a few photos that are sensational that will beat out the pros.Originally posted by u01fw3
