2006 photo contest - season is almost over

the 2006 photo contest season is running out fast ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚¦ and I’‚’‚…‚’‚…¾‚d like input as to topics to consider for special 2007 photo contest categories ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚¦ to try out for the coming year ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚¦

ideally the category should be able to appeal to both the accomplished photographer as well as a novice ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚¦ some of the categories I’‚’‚…‚’‚…¾‚m considering

Baby photos

Holiday photos

Dog Photos .. Lets face it .. everybody loves Bella

Child Photo Contest

Nature Photo Contest


These photo contests would run separately from the normal photo of the week and for a duration of about 30 ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚‚¦‚“ 45 days each ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚¦


I’‚’‚…‚’‚…¾‚d truly appreciate input in both topics and contest administration ie: should there be a cash prize do they really make any difference ? ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚¦ how best to give recognition to the special category winners without diminishing the luster of photo of the week etc.

Maybe the dog category should be pets or animals

Maybe a category for Still Life/Macro grouped together.

Not sure of what to do for recognition yet.
I guess it depends on how the winners are selected. Over on another site I and a few others here are on they have POTW but its chosen by the members.
But any of the monthly contests are chosen behind the scenes by consistant judges and I think 1 guest judge each month.

For recognition it would also depend if you are able to get sponsors.
I have another suggestion but will run it by you first before I mention it

Another might be 'Digital Art'. I like the way our regular contest is 'real photos' but there are a lot of really well manipulated ones out that that would make a nice showcase.

Also 'technology' - Buddy's CD this week made me think of that.

"Colours" e.g. 'In the Pink', or 'Boldly Blue'
"Transportation"
"Textures"
"Wildlife"
"Domestic Animals"
"Farmlife"
"Sunrises/Sunsets"
"Kid Appeal" e.g. photos that would appeal to children.

Alright - I'll stop now and let somebody else fill the other 2 months of the year. LOL

We need to be a bit careful about seasonal subjects - we have members from all over the world and it's not Spring all at the same time

I'd like to suggest:

Things Not Noticed
Bon Appetit (Cooked Food or the ingredients for a recipe)
Underfoot (things on we find on the ground)


I'll keep thinking.
