A Heart Felt Thanks to All My Friends At Byte!!
I've had some great news this week. In retrospect, I'd like to thank all of you at Bytephoto that have been instrumental in helping me grow with my photography.
As some of you know, I joined this site in 2004, a couple of months after purchasing my first camera. A Nikon D70. Comments and suggestions helped me develope an eye for composition. And in turn, looking at all the great work here, and learning to comment and suggest to others has further helped me.
This year, I started entering contests, to get a BIO that would allow me to present my work to Art Galleries for consideration. I,ve had a lot of luck this year, and it has reached a high for me this week.
Back in June, I entered a call for entries to Black and White Magazine. They publish a monthly mag, and also twice a year a Contest Issue. One for single images, one for portfolios. I entered 4 images in the Single Image Contest.
Their format, is 16 categories. They award a Gold, Silver and Bronze plus several Merit Awards to each category.
This year, they had over 3000 entries. They gave 200 awards, 155 Merit Awards, and Gold, Silver and Bronze for each category.
I received an email a couple of weeks ago, stating that 2 of my images were accepted for the publication. Needless to say I was thrilled.
3 days ago, my copies arrived. I was awarded the Gold Award for Landscape/Nature, and the Bronze Award for Pattern/Texture. I almost drove off the road (driving down the mountain leafing through the mag) and had to pull over to let it sink in.
That said, I want to repeat my THANK YOU ALL for your continued help and support in my journey.
The Issue is on Newstands now. It is Black and White Magazine's, B&W Special Issue 2007 Single Image Contest Awards.
You can also see the photos on my website at:
www.carolynguildphotography.com
They are both in my Black and White Gallery, identified by title.
Also, my results from this year can be seen on the "Announcements" page.
I'm pretty much beside myself, doing backflips around my cabin. I hope no one takes this as bragging, as it is not intended as such, but I am so proud and happy, I just have to share this with all my friends here.
Happy Trails to All,
Carolyn

WOW Carolyn thats awesome, congrats, you deserve it.
How long did it take to sink in lol.
It takes a while for it to feel real doesnt it
I think you must have been on Byte longer than even Paul ( I joined this site in 1994,)
Think you meant 2004 but I can understand with all the excitement.
I wonder if our local book store has the b/w mag. I'll have to run out today to find it

Oooooops.... yes 2004 LOL. Corrected that.
You are right Ruth. It is still sinking in, and a bit hard to grasp.
The printing in the mag is a bit grey... (very slight disapointment) (very slight) a better rendition is on my site...
Thanks sooooo much

Congratulation Carolyn
I just finished checking out the two shots. The competition didn't stand a chance
Carolyn you are an inspiration to us all and thankyou so much for sharing the great news. I don't think we get that magazine in England. I'll check out a few newsagents tomorrow first chance I get. I'd love to buy a copy. I may need to get you to sign it though.

B&W
Ruth, LOL, I know it's not a dream when I wake up 'cause I've got a copy right on my nightstand!!
Thanks AL, I'm glad you enjoyed my site too
Matt.... I'm sure you can imagine how I feel!!
Let me know if there are no copies of Black and White Magazine in your town....
Paul, thanks. It really goes to show how much value this site has for us. You may remember when I first started posting surf and mountain shots in late '04.... To be able to leave and receive feedback here is invaluable. One reason I like this site above others, is the fact that feedback is not just "this is great". And the comments are valuable from each and every member, not just those that have been at it for awhile, as everyone has a different perspective. Thank You ;- )

I didn't see it at one of the shops I was in, but Chapters will probably have it up here. I'm buying one and using it as 'inspiration'. You joined around the same time as me and wow have you come a long way. This is super! And this is not bragging - it's sharing a well-deserved credit and giving us all hope!
Hopefully the warmth and the flips around the cabin will keep you going through the cold snap!

Carolyn, how stupendous! Grand news indeed and you are well deserving of these prizes. Your work is outstanding, always. And as you thank people here for their feedback to your work, we can all in turn thank you for what you bring to us. I have learned a lot from you and you are generous with your help and encouragement.
Boy, I wish we could all be together to have a party!! :

Suzan, thanks soooo much. I really deliberated wether or not to post this, as I was afeered (sic) some would take it as bragging. But I am so happy, I just had to share this news and thank everyone. Talk about coming a long way, look at your website! You've got many wonderful images up now. I enjoyed looking through them last week.
Swier, thank you so kindly. I was there on my trip here just a week and a half ago, but unfortunately, there was a strong cloud layer, negating the night photography. I did get a nice sunrise at Mesa Arch. May post next week....
Glad to "kindle the flame"
Sheila.... Thank you kindly!!!! And boy do I wish we could all have a party

The help goes both ways here..... I'm glad to be able to share and learn with everyone.
Carolyn Still bouncing off walls, but back to work now.

I finally picked up my issue of Black and White Magazine at Barnes and Noble
It looks great Carolyn.
I hope your walls are padded lol
I think we all could learn a thing or two from your superb b/w conversion skills.

Hey Carolyn,
Your message did not surprise me that much
You're one of the finest photographers here on Byte (and they're many!).
I just wanted to pop in and say "Felicitations" to you (congratulations in French
)
I wish this magazine was available here down under but I haven't seen seen it yet....
Good on you again!
I'm really happy for you, you deserve it! (It might one of a long series of publications.............)
PS Thanks for sharing!MIKE
