I bought a gorilla today...
pod that is
A Gorilla Pod. I was at an all day Adobe Photoshop Seminar today and managed to escape with buying only a Gorilla Pod and a membership in NAPP. I heard about the Gorilla Pod from Ruth, thanks Ruth. I can't wait to wrap it around something.
The Seminar was mind boggling. Ben Willmore taught it and my head is still spinning. A ton of information to try to absorb in one day, but I learned a lot and I also learned how much i need to learn and how wonderful it all is. It's all so damn clever!
Very few vendors, because it wasn't an expo, so I was happy not to be bombarded with that. But everyone needs their own Gorilla.

so, you brought the ape home huh LOL
Does it have a leash?
I have to find a way to use one with mine so that it doesnt escape.
Last Friday when I wrote you the note about trying it out I couldnt wait until I got home so I snuck out of the office for lunch when I remembered I had the ape pod on my car.
It worked fine when I wrapped it around the arm of a park bench.
But like I mentioned over on DIC I wish I had picked up the small mini ballhead with the tilt arm so I could also manouver it to a portrait position.
I'll have to see where I can get one sometime before the end of 2006
Curious how much was the seminar?
Did they just teach Adobe or did they also happen to meniton work flow or even demo Adobe Lightroom?
I was listening to a very interesting seminar (free) in NY at the Expo but had to leave because Sue C and the others we came with needed to catch the train back home
so I missed the rest of it.

LOLOL, I just went to the site and checked out the many uses for a Gorilla pod
Where will you use your gorillapod?
Vacations
Sightseeing
Honeymoons
If you have to use a Gorilla pod on your honeymoon then maybe the Honeymoon is over before it even started LOLLast edited by RTaylor; Nov 14th, 2006 at 01:09 AM.

Ruth, the seminar was $99 - plus, in my case, I had go be away from home for two nights and take a train so that added to the cost for me.
But, I wouldn't have missed it. And I think someone who is more advance in the use of PS than I would get even more out of it.
check out my other thread. And I know I already forgot to put some of the things in there.

Hey Sheila,
by chance do you or anyone else here subscribe to Outdoor Photographer?
I have since 2003 and I just got this months magazine.
Take a look at the article by Bob Krist who just happens to be local to Bucks County. He's an amazing pro photographer for NG traveller and a few other mags.
He lists camera gagets to buy for Christmas at reasonable prices and his one suggestion that he bought himself is the gorilla pod
He tells how he wrapped his speed light around a chandelier with it lol.
I know he has the D200 which is a bit heavier than the D70 but he also uses it for his point and shoots when he cant go places with his pro cameras.
He mentioned that he got a small ball head with his but i dont remember that option to purchase it there on the spot.
I'll have to check out the ball heads because I'm sure it will come in handy.
I went to one of his local talks last January. He is very entertaining and told us of all the out of the way places he was asked to get that "special shot" and most times could not use a tripod. So I bet he is using the Gorilla for a lot of those now.
So goes to show, the G-pod's is not just for being used by amatures
We are in good gorilla company now

Ruth, Hi,
I haven't got mine yet, I simply ordered my Gorilla Pod it at the seminar . They don't bring stock with them, since I guess the Gorillas get kind of wild and have been known to swing off the power point equipment and the beams in the convention ceners
In NYC one was seen at the top of the Empire State Building
Thanks for the information about this man - I'll check him out, sounds interesting.
No mention of a ball head was made when I ordered my Ape, but I think it's something I'm going to want to get too.
Wind is blowing hard here again today. I went out to the Boat Yard and couldn'tg keep the camera still because of the force of the wind. A tripod wouldn't have helped. A good test of my image stabiliser.
Have a good Thanksgiving.
Sheila.

well last time you said you had windstorms, they came my way a day later. Can you blow them in the other direction please?
here is his website. He is on a lot of pro stock websites too
http://www.bobkrist.com
I have 3 of his hard cover books already
Spirit of Place,
Bucks County
and Down the Shore
I always buy directly from him so that any money goes to him instead of Amazon books.
He signs all books he sells directly and was even nice enough to sign the Bucks County book for me that I found in a local book store before I knew he had a website online.Last edited by RTaylor; Nov 20th, 2006 at 03:17 PM.
