My apologies
It has been suggested by a member theat I may have offended folk by suggesting an edit on a photo put up in the photo contest where the box for an edit has not been ticked.
I am so sorry if this has been the case - put it down to enthusiasm and a desire to be involved
My sincere apologies.
I have learnt so much on this site for which I thank you all,
I shall look in occasionally to see how it is all going.
Take care and all the best,
Mary

Mary
It's my fault. I was trying to help her avoid making someone mad by editing a photo and posting a link to it when "Allow Photo Edit" was checked NO. Here is a copy of the pm I sent to her.
Hi Marysa...
Please don't take this wrong.... I seem to say things that make people angry.
Maybe you checked with Al, and maybe he really appreciates your edit.... but if the box for "allow photo modifications" is checked "no", you may end up stepping on someones toes...by submitting an edit. I probably shouldn't even say anything but you are so helpful, just trying to prevent a problem (that is probably nonexistant in this case.... but in the future?)
Just a friendly tip
Carolyn
And she replied:
Re: Editing
Thank you, Carolyn - sorry - I'm out of here!
Cheers,
Mary
So, Mary I was trying to help. Guess maybe I should quit doing that, mind my own business and submit. Please reread what I sent you. I can't believe you would leave because of it.

I havent been paying attention lately to all the posts and submitted photos.
But I don't quite get why Mary would leave over such a simple thing.
Carolyn, I know if you had sent me that pm, it wouldnt have upset me at all.
Maybe Mary was having a bad day to begin with and thats why something simple seemed to make her want to leave?
People should be receptive to help and tips and not take it personally.
I think the community of Byte would like Mary to come back

Mary
Whatever has happened I'm sure it can be sorted out. All I know is you are one of the most helpful, kindest and most thoughtful members Byte has ever had and also a wonderful photographer. Many members including myself have learnt so much from your kind help, so please please please come back. Bytephoto will not be the same without you.

Mary, I was REALLY just trying to help because you are so helpful I didn't want someone (as I said... in the future) getting sore at you.
I'll quit butting in (my way of being helpful) if you'll just reread what I wrote and take it in the context it was meant. And come back.

Mary, you've always been extremely thoughtful and provide good suggestions. I don't think Carolyn's e-mail was in any way offensive.
The checkbox for 'allow edits' was put there because some people do genuinely get PO'd if people play with their shots no matter how good their intentions. Carolyn was just giving a heads up from what I can read. I know I've done it before and missed the checkbox completely - it's easy to do. I'd appreciate a warning from a member who noticed.
Hopefully it was just a misinterpretation of Carolyn's e-mail and you will return.Suzan...

C'mon Aussie :)
G'day Mary.
Hey listen, your floral captures, comments and thoughts are an integral part of Byte. They have been even before I got here, and I dare say that folks look forward to seeing them each week.
If I'm thinking flowers, I often look to see if you've posted, because, well, they're my benchmark
And, y'know what, it's a pretty obvious testament to your love of flowers and their inherent beauty that you spend so much time and care in composition and presentation in the results we see and have seen. It's wonderful to see this. I know most folks here appreciate your interpretation and resulting images.
Not only that, you're very good at what you do.
If you do decide to leave, and I hope you don't, choose to leave because it no longer interests you, not because people have made a comment that didn't sit right.
Carolyn's a very good buddy of mine who's open, provocative and forthright, and absolutely totally in love with the photographic medium. I'm confident she'd only have stated what she said to you in terms of commaradere and peership and perhaps saw or thought of something that may have resulted in someone getting upset at you!
I'm 100% confident she wouldn't have intended to upset you.
I for one, hope that when next I come here, you'll be here too mate.

Hey Mary,
Graham said it all...I easily confess that I'm one of those who are looking forward each week, to seeing your new flower shots...as I do think you're of the most talented photograhers on this site.
You've always given a helping hand to whoever needed it (I'm once again one of those
) in terms of photography and find it hard to understand why you'd leave this site for a comment...
I'll respect your decision whichever it may be...but will be disapointed, just like everyone, if you do decide to leave.
If this is the case, I wish all the best in photograhy

I just want to add my dime's worth, Mary. I'm sorry that you're leaving and echo the sentiments of other here.
I'm at a loss to understand how Carolyn's note to you could be the entire cause , however. It seemed appropriate to me for someone who cared to give you a head's up. I might have done the same thin had I noticed.
There may be more to this than meets the eye.
I wish you well, Mary.

It seems to me that Carolyn got severely chastised by another member when she did an edit on their photogaph. It may be that which caused her to caution Mary, lest she suffer the same nasty fate somewhere down the line.
All the more reason, Mary, not to take what Carolyn said as cause to leave...she really was trying to be kind and kindness deserves reward, your leaving is punishment.

MMM I was say that there would have to be other reasons for her leaving, maybe the email was just the "nail in the coffin" so to speak. I hope not, I enjoy marys photos and we Aussies are known for our easy going attitudes. I think this site is in need of a revamp personally as it has a lot of competition from other great sites these days.
