New Photographer
Hello!
A few months ago I started helping a friend with her wedding photography business. With all the positive encouragement from clients who preferred my images, I've decided to join the throngs of other professional photographers and start my own business. My internship with a fabulous local photographer starts next week so I can learn more about the business side as well as tricks of the trade. I've enjoyed reading posts/replies on this forum and learning that way too. I love the constructive criticism; everyone seems so nice!

Boy, you are a brave person getting into the Wedding Photograpy business - but I wish you luck.
Do post to the contest, I'd love to see your work.

Thanks, Sheila. I don't know if I'm THAT good to post to the contests but I need to get some images out there for some constructive feedback. I'm still learning, a beginner, and don't know my camera well enough to be better technically. This internship will boost my knowledge and expertise THEN I'll feel confident to post my images with all the other fabulous photographers!

Welcome Lucky.
Please do post some photos, even if you don't feel that they are good enough. That makes it a great opportunity to learn. Over the past 8 months or so, the folks that critique here have quickly helped me to shoot photos that I never felt was possible. They (we) will always say what we think, but usually the critiques are right on. It is a compitition, but what I've learned is much, much more valuable than anything I've won. (Winning is a thrill though! (-
And there is a good possibility that we can learn from you!

Well, Sam, I imagine you're on the welcome committee because that was a clever way to encourage me to post images ;o) I guess if I put out there that I'm new, everyone could be gentle on my ego, huh? Although, I probably could use getting kicked down a notch or 2 LOL. Thanks for the reply!

Hi Lucky
I too am new to this site. After lurking for several weeks I have noticed that many photos get few or no comments. It appears that you have to be part of the in group to have comments made on youy photos
Right now there are 58 photos posted and 30 have no comments and many have only one or two, Then there is the group who are all commented on by the same people.
I may be wrong but it looks to me that not all photos are equal here regardless of the quality.
One or two people seem to make all the comments with their friends.
Not sure this is where I want to post my photos.

I haven't checked, but how many photographs have each of you commented on?
While I think there is some truth to what you say, that people are commenting more to people they know, I also think it helps to be recognized and I think one way to do that is to comment on other people's work.
I haven't done much commenting so far this week, because i have a lousy cold...although I've posted. Plus only Tuesday. I've been coming here for a long time, but I still find weeks when I don't get much response.
Keep posting, it is going to take time. And there are a lot of images to lookk and and comment on.

I have been here just a few weeks myself but have found everyone to be very responsive to the photos it takes time to get a feel for someones work we are all afterall individuals and see things differently and although you may not allways receive comments on your work its is still being viewed there are several photos in the contest right know that i would like to comment on but cant seem to put the words together As you comment on others work they inturn can get a feel for your work and you

In case you didn't notice I did say I had been here several weeks now watching what happens here and I think that is fair.
What I didn't like is how you like to throw the blame back on to people when ever you don't like what they are saying and in this case you said to me
I haven't checked, but how many photographs have each of you commented on?
I don't understand your need to do this and this is not to say you are the only one but the only one to comment on my post. I call what you are doing is to give people a guilt trip. Sorry it won't work with me.
I have watched as I said for several weeks now and I have found that your negativity is too much for me to bother posting. I understand that this site is about having your work criticized but it does not have to be done so negatively.
Maybe if you ever become more positive and not criticize everyone so much, making it so apparent that your are basing your criticism on your personal tastes rather that photographic ability and knowledge of composition etc, then I will take some time to post.
There are so many other sites out there for a young photographer like myself. You can continue to enjoy yourself by putting people down but you will have to do it with out me.
