Canon Eos 350d

Hi,i would class myself as a beginner in the art of digital photography,having read countless reviews of different cameras i opted for the 350d as my first digital slr.In the box was the standard 18-55 lens and after experimenting for a good while now i am looking to purchase a lens with a better zoom.So to my question,as a beginner with not a big budget can somebody recommend to me a good cheap all rounder,any feedback would be greatfully received..thanks

Can't really suggest one particular lens but I can say a few things from what I have read. As I am in the hunt for a lens for my D60.

The Canon "L" range of lens are the best ones (and expensive) If i had money I would buy the EF 24-7mm L USM.

The other thing is that having a 350D means that you don't have a full frame SLR (same as me). So with a lens magnification adjustment of 1.6x, your 18-55m lens is equilivant to 28 -88mm on a 35mm SLR. So if you purchase a normal EF lens this needs to be taken into consideration as these are taylored to full framed cameras while the EF-S lens were made with purely the non full framed digital cameras. With the EF lens and the way the lens adjustment works makes it difficult to achieve wide angle shots on consumer DSLRs.

So you may not need as much zoom as you first thought when choosing a lens.
