noob saying hi from AUS
hello all, im hailing from melbourne australia. im new to the photography thing, having recently (as in 2 days ago) purchased myself an FZ30. i was going to go the full DSLR route, with either the 350D or the olympus E300, but to get what i wanted would have been well outside my budget. so here i sit with my new fz sitting in front of me and i look at all these buttons.. compared to my old mju300, this thing is a rocketship.
my general photo's are sporting events, ESP motorsport, and being new to the "bridging" camera world, im interested to know what people think of the FZ, and what settings i should think about using for high speed events. ill eventually sort it out i guess. i dont have any pics posted to date in my gallery, but eventually when i get some decent pics done, ill post them up for a critique.Last edited by ronin; Jul 8th, 2006 at 12:30 AM.

welcome from another aussie (Albany western australia) I started out with a canon G3 and got some very nice photos from that before moving on to a canon 300D then a 30D, enjoy the new camera, im told that model is very nice, I have a few friends that own one and they have shot some beautiful photos with it. Once you get to know the camera all those buttons wont seem as many at all

Welcome! I have an Olympus 5050Z and an FZ30. I bought the latter because of the size of the zoom but as you sort you way through all the bells and whistles you'll find that it does very well at sporting events. I shoot at our local skate park sometimes and it captures action well.
Glad you're here and I hope to see you posting soon
Sheila.

Ooops, I forgot to try to answer your question.
For action I set the Scene mode to sports. That will deliver three shots in rapid succession with one press of the shutter. I tend to shoot a little wider to allow for motion through the frame, knowing I can adjust the frame later. Sometimes I set to an empty frame, keep on eye open, and let the action come to me. This mode doesn't do so well indoors, but for outside stuff I find it to be very good.
The burst mode is also good for action.
I'm still learning about the FZ30, it has a lot to offer.
Sheila.
