To buy or not to buy?
I am looking to build a website as I am now starting to get more commercial with photography (Less assisting!!!). I have no skill in internet coding so looking for options to have a type of programme.
I have seen a few websites that provide online portfolios. The one that looks the best is www.browndog.biz (Google) I like the idea of being able to edit and maintain my own site. Its nice to think that I could upload any new work as soon as its finished. Some other websites offer a free service, but I want my website to look professional where the free ones don't have the same look.
Can anyone recomend them? They seem to have more options than others and price seems to be reasonable.
Thanks
Sophie

Sophie, I used 1and1.com to host my website. I know that they have templates for various styles of galleries as part of their packages and say web setup is simple. http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Hos...op&__lf=Static
The hosting with them has been great - never been down (knock on wood). I didn't use them to build my site (didn't know about them at the time) but took a 3-day class in using Dreamweaver and built my own using a piece of freeware called Web Album Generator (http://www.ornj.net/webalbum/ ) to do the galleries.
My site is simple, but easy to manage and navigate. http://www.photoswithfinesse.com/ and this is a friend's site - http://www.photographyexpressions.com/ She is also hosted there and used the same generator so you can see how things can be customized.
Hope that gives you a few more ideas.Suzan...

Susan,
I think thats who we have been using to host my site
The reason I dont know for sure lol, is because my husband is the one who set it all up and continues to maintain it.
But I do know he used them initially and am pretty sure he still uses them.
I think he said they were the cheapest in price around.
I like your website Susan, beautiful pictures. I dont think I have seen any of those posted here before, but then again I havent been around every week

Suzan,
Thanks for the advice. Having a good think and look around I have decided to go with www.browndog.biz. They can do the hosting for me. Another thing not to worry about!! Also they are doing my domain registering.
Just haven't got time with learning html coding, so will stick with browndog.biz All I have to do is upload my images to a pre designed templte(which i can adapt to suit me) and thats it. Should really take me no more than a day to do.
all the best
sophie
Will post a message when my site is up and running!!!!

Good luck with it Sophie. You'll feel so proud when it's up and running.
(And thanks Ruth. Some of those hit byte but there's so many more! I haven't been posting much lately either - just too swamped.)Suzan...
